Do you expect a Diablo 4 by 2020?
I’ve sort of given up on Diablo 4 any time soon. I want it, don’t misunderstand me, I just don’t expect to see it. As a result, I’m curious why Goldman Sachs is so sure we’ll get a sequel, much less one for Overwatch.
To be honest, I don’t think we’ll see an Overwatch sequel by 2020. I don’t think we’ll see one any time soon, in fact, because I believe Overwatch is a game that could exist with constant updates for years to come. I’m not saying we’ll never get an Overwatch 2 so much as I’m saying it wouldn’t be a huge problem if we didn’t — this is a game that could keep people playing it for years and could just as easily get expansions as whole sequels.
But the prediction of a Diablo 4 hit me right in my desperate little heart. I want this game to exist. I want it to happen and to continue the story of Sanctuary and those meddlesome prime evils, who may or may not still be fused within Diablo itself as of the end of Reaper of Souls.
There are a host of plot threads — the ultimate fate of Leah, the potential return of the Prime Evil Tathemet, the Nephalem having grown in power to the point where she or he might threaten the universe — that I would absolutely love to see continued. But can it be as easy as a profit calculation? Will these games happen just because they’d bump the stock price? I don’t buy it. Blizzard has never been an easy company to predict that way.
So what do you think? What do you think is in the pipeline? Will we get a Diablo 4 announcement next year for a 2020 delivery? Will we see Overwatch 2 or not?
