The Queue: WoW RTS, predicting tomorrow, and artifact level 75 — now what?
Today I’m going to ask you all a question, dear Queue.
I’ve hit artifact level 75 on my main artifact, and that’s grand. My beast master prowess is better than most, and even though it’s just LFR, I’m regularly (at least) in the top five of DPS meters. And I know, I know… they shouldn’t matter. And they don’t, but it’s more of a personal thing for me to see if I’m using the best possible rotations and achieving success. I don’t look down on those doing less damage — who care really, the boss is dead.
So my question to you is, besides the obvious answers of content, questing, PVP, etc… what is there left to do on my artifact? Anything weapon?

Q4tQ: I don’t know… I’m feeling dreamy today… So… What if, we had a RTS game advancing the story of Warcraft, and then a Warcraft 2 with all new redone zones and classes, would you be playing it at all? Would you stay at WoW1 (if allowed)? Do you think it’d be the WoW killer (even if you don’t need to pay another sub if you already sub for WoW)?
I have some large thoughts herre.
First, I think it’s beyond time for another Warcraft RTS game. I don’t necessarily think that it needs to tell a story though — I would love to see RTS maps that encourage the players to battle out matches in places like Alterac Valley. Take the existing battlegrounds in WoW, tweak them a bit, and put them into an RTS game. For those of us that want a return to days-long AVs? This game would be for you.
Of course, add in additional maps and a creation system akin to what StarCraft II has, and the game would be very solid. I am resistant, however, to the idea of a story because the story of WoW has become so deep and complex that there is a literally economy built around explaining it (a significant portion of our content is lore-based, and real money is being made to read it). I don’t think that an RTS could do it justice without becoming some kind of hybrid RPG/RTS game. Something like that wouldn’t be bad for me, but I don’t think it’d have mass appeal.
Instead, I think it’s nearing the time to talk about WoW2. I want to get into this in a longer post later; but in general my feelings are that the current game has progressed to a point where we have plot lines diverging, coming back together again, and rehashing themselves over and over. For a newcomer to WoW, the task of figuring out what’s going on is akin to starting from scratch with The Wheel of Time series. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s not exactly friendly either.
Additionally, while the graphics of the game have progressed, there are older graphic and systems that are most definitely in need of a complete overhaul. I think this is really going to become a point of contention with players when they go back and start running older content and seeing it compared to the new zones of BfA or Legion. The trees are one thing here that especially bothers me.
There is a lot more to bed said about WoW2, and I hope to finish my post on it that I’ve been writing forever and a day. I’m curious to hear what you all say as well.
Q4tQ: Do you think the extended maintenance announcement means patch 7.3.5 this week?
Yes. And then I expect the pre-order for BfA not to drop for another two months, preventing us from getting access to the allied races in the most painful way possible: waiting.
I’m a little cranky with this as I’m really in the mood to level a new character, but don’t want to right now because the character I want to level is a Void Elf Mage or Warlock (haven’t decided which yet). I may go through and get my warrior up to 110 while I’m waiting, but still… I really want to hit the ground with a new void elf spell caster.
It’s weird how obsessed I am with this; I usually don’t care at all about new races. Maybe it’s just the RP element from the story perspective.
Oh, and to add how crazy I am about this? I’m going to be leveling without heirlooms or buying things off the auction house. Only what I get from quests, dungeons, or make will be the things I use.
Q4tQ: When trying to find an active social guild, does it matter what server it’s on when I see it advertised in a city chat?
Yes, it does. You’re limited to only joining guilds that live on the same sever as you do.
I think this is behavior that needs to change, by the way. I understand the concepts of servers and cross-realm groupings, however the idea that we can see people, interact with people, but not build a social structure with those people? It inherently violates the idea of group building. Granted there are ways around this, but the fact that it’s not obvious and stands in the way of users (without a financial contribution to Blizzard’s coffers) is a detriment.
Lol Vikings somehow pulled that game out
I believe the entire state of Minnesota lost our minds last night.
