The Queue: Adventure time

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

Don’t worry kid, I’m sure that giant flaming worm beast won’t eat you. And hey, I’ve already got everything I need for my wardrobe, so whatever we pull out of its intestines after we kill it is all yours. Yes, yes I said we. You didn’t think I was going to let you tag along without contributing, right?

I’m the best orphan mom ever. Let’s get to your questions.

JALAMENOS ASKED:

So I’m trying to come up with a backstory for my Void Elf and I want the Purge of Dalaran to be a turning point in her life.
How accurate are the unofficial and ultimate visual guide timelines?
They both say that Mists of Pandaria happened in year 30 after the opening of the Dark Portal, with Legion taking place in year 32.

I’m just trying to establish a timeframe :)

The unofficial timeline is, if I remember correctly, cobbled together from dates mentioned in various stories across Blizzard media — it’s not official at all. The Ultimate Visual Guide timeline is considered a canon timeline, it’s straight from Blizzard. The timeline in the UVG doesn’t have a ton of detail however, so if you wanted to snag some dates from the unofficial timeline for RP purposes, I don’t think anyone’s going to hang that over your head or anything. Have fun!

KALCHEUS ASKED:

Q4TQ: Do you still bring the Stormwind Orphan to visit Magni in Diamond form? Or did they remove/change that?

Yes, yes you do, as I have logged on and verified with a very frightened orphan. You might think that’s a little weird, but since the Orc kid still asks for a front-row seat at the Bloodhoof BBQ, I think we can just chalk this off to being a little messy all around. Mind you, the bits of lore in holiday events aren’t exactly earth-shattering anyway. I mean, you’re doing them because you want a cool pet or achievement usually, not because you’re looking for oodles of story.

That said, you know what? I think it’d be kind of cool if we could have some kind of holiday with more of a lore focus. Something like the Overwatch Archives events. Wouldn’t it be neat if we could revisit history with the Timewalkers and check out pivotal lore moments up close and personal? I’m not talking about stuff like Timewalking raids, I mean like…go back and witness the lead up to the First War, that kind of thing. It’d be fun!

KALINIS ASKED:

Q4TQ a guildy recently mentioned that bfa will be a pvp centric expansion hinting that if u do things like expeditions in pvp mode u will get 20 pct more gold/azurite and stuff. i was curious is that true? to me it seems like it can’t be that given a person 20 pct more azerite say for pvp stuff then pve would create a huge inbalance in game.

This is the first I’ve heard of that — and if it were true, you can be sure that a lot of people would be heatedly discussing it all over the place. Battle for Azeroth isn’t a PVP-centric expansion. There’s a lot of war and battles and stuff going on, yes. But to my knowledge, participating in PVP isn’t going to get you anything that makes you more useful in PVE situations.

MYSERI ASKED:

QftQ: BfA is removing Tier Gear and giving us Azerite Gear. Is it true that we are no longer getting Spec Specific gear and only getting Armor Type?

That’s correct — they’re designing armor sets around the raid, rather than the class. Which…well, that’s pretty much what they’ve done in all prior expansions before Legion. Frankly, it sounds like they’re just going to be giving us less model options for new gear from my perspective as a Wardrobe-hoarder and transmog fanatic.

I’m a little frustrated with that, because the one thing we’ve been consistently lacking since…Wrath, pretty much, is variety. Yes, Burning Crusade made us all look like clowns at the time. But I’d rather have a wide variety of options to mix and match than a handful of matchy-matchy sets that aren’t particularly striking, you know?

I will say, however, that all the gear I’ve seen so far in Battle for Azeroth has been very visually appealing. I’m happy with the leveling looks, and I’m hoping that raid sets will be just as interesting.

ROCKET123 ASKED:

Q4TQ-What happened to all of the roleplay based articles? For the longest time those were my favorite articles. I assume that they weren’t doing well in terms of views, just would be nice to get an answer on that!

They weren’t really pulling in enough traffic to be viable — roleplaying is kind of a niche interest, anyway. You’re the first person that’s asked about them! I’m glad you enjoyed them, I really liked writing them. We might have some one-shots every now and again in the future, but it’s no longer a regular column. Sorry!

@ALAUG ASKED VIA TWITTER:

How likely do you think we are to get vulpera as an allied race, and which faction do you think they’d be on?

Given the amount of detail paid to their animations and models, I’d say it feels pretty likely. If they were added, I think they’d probably be a Horde Allied Race, simply because the vast majority of the little guys are all located in a Horde leveling zone. But that zone also includes some pretty interesting snake people — the Sethrak. Most of them appear to be hostile, but there are some out there that are friendly. And of course there are also the Tortollan, who pop up here there and everywhere. The Tortollan are on both continents, so I could see them going either way, if they happened to be made an Allied Race in the future as well.

Keep in mind this is all me just making guesses. If there are any new Allied Races coming to either faction, I’m sure Blizzard will make an announcement eventually. Until then, we’ll just have to complete quests for the little guys and enjoy their presence.
