Sorry, but you can’t move your Diablo 3 characters between PC, PlayStation Switch, and Xbox

This is a question people are often asking, especially now that Diablo 3 is playable on so many platforms — Windows and Mac, Playstation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and One, and the Nintendo Switch as well. If you’ve been playing Diablo 3 at home on your PC, how can you move your character over to the Switch and start playing them there? The short answer is you can’t — and there’s no plan currently to allow you to move characters between PC and any console version of the game or vice-versa.

The slightly more complicated answer is maybe someday. Blizzard has, in the past, allowed people to move their Diablo 3 characters from previous generation consoles to current generation consoles when they came out — players could move characters from PS3 to PS4, Xbox 360 to Xbox One, and even fr0m Xbox 360 to PS4 and PS3 to Xbox One.

However, Blizzard hasn’t done that in a few years, and they’ve never allowed PC players to port their character to consoles — you cannot, for example, move your Xbox One Barbarian or Demon Hunter to PC. You could never move console to PC or PC to console even when Blizzard was letting people move between consoles.

Also, while you can’t move any current console characters to any other consoles, you can use the Nintendo Switch’s cloud save feature to load your Diablo 3 Switch characters onto a different Switch so you can do local play on a single console together. It’s a handy feature… but it still doesn’t let you swap platforms.

So if you have a lot of time and Paragon levels on your PC main, I’m sad to tell you that you’ll be starting from scratch when you pick up that Switch and get Diablo 3 Eternal Collection for it.
