After a disappointing launch, Blizzard is offering refunds for Warcraft 3: Reforged
Despite Blizzard’s reputation for publishing polished products — and Warcraft 3 Reforged’s release delay — the game has hasn’t been well received. The game is missing features (like improved cutscenes) that were promised at the game’s announcement, the release was full of bugs, classic Warcraft 3 players have to use the new (bugged) Reforged framework, and players don’t retain ownership of any mods made for Warcraft 3: Reforged, a key feature in the original game.
Blizzard hasn’t exactly missed that people aren’t happy. (I’m not sure how they could miss that. My wife went in for surgery last week so I have been occupied thinking about something else, and I knew that people weren’t happy.) So CM Kaivax has taken to the forums to do damage control and discuss what Blizzard’s going to do about it. And frankly… the answer is not much. Blizzard is fixing bugs, but not much else.
But players do have one recourse if they’re frustrated with how Reforged turned out: they can get a refund. Blizzard already offered refunds for players who were upset the game’s release date was pushed back, but now they’re offering refunds to anyone who’s been playing but doesn’t like what they’ve seen. Until now, anyone who had played was denied a refund, but Blizzard has changed their tune. If you want a refund — even if you already asked and were denied a refund — you should submit a ticket on the web requesting a refund. It’s quick and easy, with some players reporting that they received their refund in just five minutes.
So if you’re not happy with Warcraft 3 Reforged because of bugs or technical issues? Those will absolutely be fixed. But if you’re unhappy because you prefer playing Reign of Chaos games or because you’re a mod maker or because you wanted Blizzard to update the look of the game more than they did? You’ll have to decide if you want a refund or not, because those aren’t changing.
