The Queue: My happy place

Ah, to be the prince of hell, casually battling my way toward the surface with a magic gun and the favor of the gods.

This is The Queue, where we have a whole lot going on so just be chill for a sec while we answer some questions, ok man?

Q4tQ: who do you think is the LEAST polarizing MAJOR character in WoW? The one that nearly everyone likes/loves, or is at least neutral/indifferent towards, but very few people (if anyone) dislikes or hates?

My vote: Chromie.

I feel like Anduin isn’t outright disliked by many. They may think him a pawn as Sylvanas does, or naive, or slightly boring, but people don’t seem to  want to punch him in the mouth the same way he did Wrathion. I don’t see many people viscerally reacting to his presence with “ugh, that guy” the same way they do much of the rest of the characters.

Expanding a bit past the current core, I feel like not many people have issue with Uther. Durotan may apply, but he’s rather blink-and-you’ll-miss-him. There’s a whole mess of Dwarves people don’t have much of a problem with, one of which would’ve been Magni up until he started whispering to me about “woonz” like the world’s worst ASMRtist. Chromie might be a solid pick if her choice of form wasn’t a Gnome — for a lot of people that’s an auto DQ. Also, nobody hates Amber Kearnen, and if they do they’d better shut it.

And of course, by mentioning anybody, I’ve ensured the comments will be full of, “lol no I hate that guy,” thus completing the circle of life.

QftQ: To riff of of Red’s question, which WoW NPC/faction made you saddest to be angry with? Me? I liked those dang ol’ Mantid Paragons. And, as Alliance, the loss of the Nightborne to the Horde saddened me after getting so invested in their fate.

I liked the Paragons too, but they made it pretty clear that if it came down to it, they wouldn’t hesitate. Also, they were servitors of an Old God so devoted they continued to do what they interpreted as its bidding long after its death, intentionally readying themselves for it to return. That’s kind of a dealbreaker.

Thalyssra turning on my Gnome after everything we’d been through kinda sucked, too. Literally saved you and all your retinue from becoming mindless Wretched, but nah yeah, Tyrande was kinda snippy about something that happened 10,000 years ago, so it’s cool.

Also, I will forever be salty about the Argent Crusade forcing me to prove myself.

Q4TQ: do you think WoW should add waypoints inside major cities? Say, teleporting devices all over SW / Org to get you quickly from one zone to the other.

Most (all?) other MMOs seem to have those.

We have some of these but I would love to see, at minimum, more expansive portal rooms in all the capital cities. It also seems kinda pointless to remove the ones from older content. I understand that they want to make it kind of an annoyance to use my Dalaran or Garrison Hearthstones for everything, but this is one case where I just don’t agree with that design philosophy.

At minimum, I don’t think portals to all the capital cities instead of just the one would be gamebreaking. I park my bank alts in random capital cities just because I miss AHing in Ironforge or Silvermoon City.

QftQ: After Shadowlands, how would you like to see the Eastern Kingdoms reshaped? Ever want Dalaran to just settle back down and go home? How about a revived Gilneas City? Or New Southshore, whether populated by the living or the Forsaken?

I would love to have everything kinda go back to “normal.” There are still so many vignettes based on the upheaval of the Cataclysm that just seem silly at this point. For instance, the storm in Westfall is definitely gone by now, and I would guess there would be some kind of bridge across that pit. A further progression through the story would be nice, but I definitely don’t want to sacrifice all that developer time to make that happen, either. And I understand why we’re probably going to be stuck with the stupid storm forever — the dev team isn’t interested in that sacrifice, either.

Q4tQ: Given that the pre-patch event gear is ilevel 100, how many under geared characters will you be trying to quickly gear up? My main as well as my top alt are comfortably above this (in the 120s), but I have at least 4 other alts sitting in the mid 80s who desperately could use this gear to make the start of Shadowlands a bit easier.

I have two I either just finished leveling or am about to finish. In my experience though, 80s is pretty comfortable when you’re starting out the leveling curve in Shadowlands. They throw tons of gear in your general direction anyway, so it won’t be an issue for long!
