The Queue: On the eve of Winter Veil…
Hello and happy Thursday, Queuemans! No matter how you do or don’t celebrate the holidays, I hope you are all having a great week and that this time of year isn’t too hard on you. And if it is, you always have myself, the Queuemans, and apparently a whole lot of “thank you!” bots to keep you company.
(For real, though, if this time of year is hard on you, please don’t hesitate to reach out <3)
Anyhow, let’s get our Winter Veil stockings hung, set some cookies out for Greatfather Winter, and have a sit in front of the Queuele Log.
Q4tQ: Are you drinking while answering the Qs?
Of course I am! A nice bottle of cold brew coffee! 😋☕
For real, though, I’m writing this not too long after waking up today, so I need to at least finish my coffee before, ahem, celebrating. Ask me how I’m feeling when this thing goes live though.
If you found out tomorrow that you were destined to be the savior of humanity and Skynet had sent a Terminator back through time to try to find you and eliminate you, what would you do? Where would you go?
Two answers:
- If I’m destined for this, I’ll do whatever the heck I want! Destiny, baby!
- If “destiny” is more along the lines of “you’ve been chosen,” then honestly? I’d probably go somewhere really fun and cool (like that one Atlantis water park in the Bahamas or Nintendo World or something), rent the whole place out with money that I definitely don’t have, set the place up with traps, explosives, etc., and then I’d wait. I’d see how long I could survive, with the expectation that I wasn’t coming out alive. It would be the ultimate “going out with a bang,” because I’d rig the entire area to explode if my heart rate dropped to zero. Take that, Skynet!
- Okay, I lied, third answer. I’d do nothing. This has been an exhausting year, and honestly, someone telling me a killing machine was coming to kill me at the end of it might be where I go, “All right. You win. Just get it over with.”
Eno: “I bet Mitch is gonna write about how much he loves mayonnaise now.”
Husskies: “I sure hope so! Mitch wouldn’t let me down :)”
I’m sorry to disappoint, but I don’t actually use mayo on basically anything. If it comes on a burger or a sandwich or something, I’ll totally eat it — but honestly, I couldn’t tell you what it tastes like on its own if you asked me. I just don’t have it that much.
That said, I hope it’s a consolation that I did, in fact, choose Team Mayo in the last Splatfest. We lost, but it was worth it to play on the side with the white ink that I got to spray everywhere.
Q4tQ: How much time are you spending in the Maw each week? Are you just getting the big weekly rep quests done, or are you doing the dailies 7 days a week?
Honestly, I’m in there maybe once or twice a week. I do the weekly Renown quest and if I have time, maybe a Ve’nari quest, but I just haven’t been doing much at all in the Maw. I actually still haven’t finished the first quest that expands what you can do — I have it, but when I got it, I was at Tier 5 of the Jailer hating me, so I couldn’t finish it.
It’s not that I hate the Maw, to be clear — I mean, I don’t love it either, but think the zone does what it aims to do very well, and I’m okay with a bit of harder content at max level. But I haven’t had a ton of free time for max-level content lately, and it happens to be the most tedious of my options, so everything else takes priority.
Q4tQ: Now that Blizz launches new expacs simultaneously, why is it they still release raids on different days? I’ve always felt this puts a bad taste in the mouths of any US guild, who didn’t ask to be in the “ahead” region and therefore get a head start. With a race as close as this one (I believe Echo wiped at 4% before Limit killed Denathrius), it does make you wonder.
In any case, huge gratz to Limit who definitely deserve the world first honour! /purr
To be honest, I’m not sure. I imagine it has to do with technical issues — Blizzard has more folks over here, which means they can (presumably) respond to raid bugs more easily. With a worldwide release, you’re never going to release at a time that’s convenient for everyone, so it kind of makes sense that they’d make it most convenient for where there biggest work force and bug-squishers are located.
Then again, it’s not like the race is over on Day 1, so Blizz kinda needs to be ready to squish bugs at any given moment.
Again, I’m honestly not sure. There’s probably some reason for it that makes it harder than we’re expecting, but after this most recent race was so close and the subject of a worldwide raid release has been a hotter topic, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something different next time around. Heck, maybe they do a “mini” raid in 9.0.5 or something as a test to see how well they can handle a worldwide release. In any case, I kind of hope they switch, because it’s frustrating to see actual competition and skill be dismissed or downplayed because of a slight change in release window, and it’s even more frustrating for those teams who pour everything they can into the race.
So, in “woe is me news”, I’ll be all alone on Christmas day as my wife is away doing nursing stuff on the other side of the country *waves at wales* and, due to London being plunged into super-duper-not-allowed-outside-covid-lockdown, my plan to visit my sister just up the road is no longer happening. So Christmas day will be me, several boxes of beer, some whiskey, the Queen’s speech (let’s see her put a positive spin on THIS year) and wow.
To be honest, I reckon I will have had worse days.
Hey, honestly, getting drunk and playing WoW is a pretty good day (trust me)! I know it sucks to have plans upended — especially holiday ones — but there’s no reason not to make the most of what you’re dealt this holiday.
For my part, this is going to be one of the only (maybe the only?) Christmas mornings I won’t be with my family. It’s a weird feeling, to be honest. But to make up for that, I’m Facetiming them in the morning so that I’m “there” for present-opening, and then my girlfriend and I are doing a big brinner extravaganza in the evening. Also lots of libations.
Point being, no matter what this holiday looks like for any of y’all, there’s no reason not to try to make the most of what you can. And hey, there’s always The Queue to keep you company <3
What achievement are you most proud of getting? For me it was Master of Arms (a legacy achievements), where you had to level 4 weapons to 400. Took me forever and I was so pleased when I finished it. Not sure why, but that’s mine.
Sorry if you’ve heard this story before, but I don’t know if anything will ever top my Realm First! Level 80 Priest Feat of Strength I earned back in Wrath. I played almost nonstop from Wednesday at midnight until Sunday afternoon, and when I got the achievement, I had probably 100+ whispers congratulating me (since the achievement toast went out to the whole server). It was an amazing feeling, and I do honestly miss those Feats of Strength.
I am, however, still incredibly salty that the original titles were taken away from those achievements. See, in the beta for Wrath, the Server First! achievements granted titles. For Priests, that title was “Prophet.”
Ultimately, Blizzard decided to remove the titles because they didn’t like encouraging that sort of player behavior (or something to that effect…). But I’m still salty I can’t be Prophet Fizzl.
Do you have a favorite holiday pie? Mine used to be a sweet pumpkin that my sister discovered by accident, but now it’s this delicious calorie bomb: [Insert picture here].
I don’t know if I actually have a favorite “holiday” pie, but I do love pumpkin pie, cheesecake, and any combination therein. Also carrot cake cheesecake, though that’s not actually a “holiday” thing exactly.
That said, for my birthday this year, my girlfriend made an amazing cake that was basically a Samoan/Caramel deLite Girl Scout cookie in cake form.
It. Was. Amazing. I want it every year now (any more often than that and I’d be like 50 pounds heavier).
That’s our Queue for today! I hope you all have a great day. Remember, if the holidays are hard for you, don’t hesitate to reach out to your fellow Queueman (or Queuebot).
Until next week… thank you so much!
