The Queue: Spring forward
The Bronze Dragons are at it again! Stealing time from us and causing untold mischief across the land. Maybe someday we’ll figure out a way to truly save daylight once and for all, but until then we’ll just have to put up with their chronal shenanigans. At least the time on my microwave is finally correct again.
Wait, didn’t I say this last year? I’m getting the strangest sense of deja Queue…
Q4tQ: Bosses you hate killing because you kinda like them.
I’m sure there are many more, but off the top of my head, I can think of Lei Shi in the Terrace of Endless Spring in Pandaria. She was confused from the corruption but throughout the fight, she just wanted to stop and be left alone… hmph.
Not a raid boss, but: Oranomonos, world boss in Ardenweald. He’s gone mad and thinks he’s defending the grove. Such an ancient wise creature, it breaks my heart to kill him.
And just now… Sludgefist, kinda. His mechanics suck, but he’s sort of a loveable derp. “Ouchie!” “No fair!” I want to pat him and give him a cookie, bet he’d calm right down.
What about you?
I will dispute your Lei Shi one, they were corrupted by Sha badness and we saved them from that. It was tough love, and they repaid our kindness by helping us on the Sha of Fear fight right after that.
I never wanted to fight Ursoc — professional Bear courtesy. He was the best of us bears, and it’s still a bummer that he’s gone. The other one that stands out is Thok back in Siege of Orgrimmar, sure he was bloodthirsty, but he was kidnapped and taken away from all of his other dinosaur friends, surely you’d be a little ornery too if that happened. Maybe he would’ve been less bloodthirsty if Garrosh hadn’t put a shock collar on him!
Since you play a guardian Druid, do you ever just hang around really high in the sky above a pack of mobs or someone before dropping down, turning into a bear, and doing bear druid things?
Oh, you mean Operation: Grizzly Drop.
Also known as The Dropbear surprise, Where’d that Anklysaurus come from, Werebear? Right above you! and my personal favorite — LAGBiyF. Which of course stands for Low Altitude Giant Bear in your Face.
It’s a time-honored tradition and I’m itching to go back to it in 9.1 when we get flying back in Shadowlands.
Q4tQ: Do you miss machinima? I think WoW lost a lot when everyone went to the same old boring “I am going to play the game and you will watch me” stream nonsense.
Yeah, I really like quality scripted content. It’s possible that the rise of cosplay and the ease of filming things out in the real world has lead somewhat to the scarcity of machinima these days, but I wouldn’t say no to it coming back.
Also, I know Roxxii poo-poo’d song parody music videos but why hasn’t someone wrote and filmed a version of Jukebox Hero that was “Keystone Hero”. It practically writes itself! At least I hope it does since I don’t want to write it.
Q4Cory: why is it that the mount you get for reaching Renown 39 with the Venthyr is a much less cool-looking recolor of the mount you got for completing the campaign, months before?
Hey, you’re right!
It definitely doesn’t feel like the Renown 39 mount doesn’t stand out enough for the achievement. I know that Renown isn’t the hardest thing in the world to get, but at 40 they make you a Count, and that’s not an insignificant title. Did you know it outranks Baron? So why doesn’t the mount reflect that?
Now I wish that we’d gotten something splashier, like a Gorger or a Sinrunner. Or at the very least an Anima infused Gargan that oozed power from its every pore — or would the power oozing out be more of a Necrolord thing…
QftCory: WHY DOES MY FLIGHTMASTER WHISTLE NOT WORK? RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!
(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
I’ll raise my hand as someone who thought it wasn’t going to be that big of a deal to not have the Flightmaster Whistle before we got into the expansion. Hindsight is 20/20 though. Boy, I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder.
As for why it doesn’t work, the flight masters we’d been calling with the whistle have a much better union than we realized and they’re contractually mandated to stay on their own plane of existence. When they argued that point we never assumed it would even come up!
What was the last time a miracle happened for you in the game, as in pulling victory out of the jaws of defeat? What happened?
Well, last week our Hungering Destroyer kill was very much a skin of our teeth affair. We had a few people survive his hard enrage at 7 minutes and got the kill a few seconds after that with dots and the last few spells landing. Something that we were unable to pull off again this week. I wish I had a better story from recently. There are a handful of Mythic Keystone runs where we beat the timer by a handful of seconds, but those are just heart-pounding in the moment usually.
The most exciting one in my whole Warcraft history that I remember is way back in Dragon Soul. It was my guild’s first kill of Hagara the Stormbinder. We had been struggling with her for weeks, and we’d consistently been running into the enrage timer. I was playing my Holy Paladin then and just as the tanks went down, I managed to taunt the boss and took off running in the opposite direction throwing Judgements and Holy Shocks. Here I am, running full tilt across the room, praying that the few DPS still alive manage to get her dead before the next ice tombs went out, and before she catches up to me and turns me into a Paladin shaped pancake on the ground.
We got it! Just as I died, and I didn’t even get my shoulders!
Q4TQ: What do you think Blizzard’s new FPS game is? Is it related to an existing IP or something new all together.
All I know is that it’s probably not StarCraft Ghost, and I bet we won’t see word one about it until 2025 at the earliest judging on some of those job positions.
I do hope it’s a story-based FPS though, those are some of my favorite games. I’ve spent many many many hours blasting Covenant in Halo, Demons in DOOM, and Splicers in BioShock.
Today’s Anna Earworm™: One More Time
Have a great week everyone, tune in next year to see if I make the same deja Queue joke again!
