How do you feel about Diablo 2: Resurrected changing class balance?

If you’d have told me that they would be doing significant class balance changes to Diablo 2: Resurrected I would likely not have believed you. I think that’s because I considered D2R to be similar to WoW Classic, which at the time I believed to be a museum piece, a recreation of the old game as close as they could get it. But from the beginning, D2R has been more of a revamp, with graphical updates and UI improvements aimed at preserving the game’s feel and spirit rather than just slapping a new coat of paint on the game and calling it a day.

Honestly, after the shock of it wore of — and it wasn’t a lot of shock, because I still remember Warcraft 3 Reforged and how it really didn’t work as a remaster — I embraced this idea, because it means that D2R is being treated by its developers as a living game, one that requires balance passes to make sure it remains viable. Players wanted D2 back for years, but you can’t just brush the floors and call it a day. For a game to be more than a nostalgia trip it has to adjust to the current player base, something that can be easy to forget. So yeah, I’m cautiously excited to see if they can actually make the Throwing Barbarian viable in Hell difficulty.

So now I turn to you, my friends, to ask you how you feel about it. Did you expect a game from 2000 to get a balance patch in 2022? If Diablo 2 were a person, it could drink legally in the United States, and now some eleven years after its last update, it’s going to get an entire new attempt to make martial arts build Assassin viable for Nightmare, fire Druids updated, and a whole lot more. Are you excited? Nervous? Completely uninterested?
