What games do you love despite their glaring flaws?

Look, I would never tell you that every game I love is perfect, or even good. While some games I love I really do think are great games — Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning, the Mass Effect series, Jade Empire come to mind, but there are loads more — some games I love despite some pretty glaring flaws, like Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 4. Actually, pretty much any of the Bethesda era Fallout games are tons of fun but often buggy as heck, to the point where they often require excessive modding to even make them playable. And yet, despite this, I have played and enjoyed them all, except for Fallout 76, because frankly I just wasn’t into a multiplayer Fallout game.

Similarly, I get why some people aren’t  big fans of Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura — the game was never what I’d call stable, and the combat system feels absolutely grafted on from a different, much worse game. But for me the story and worldbuilding are first rate and I’ve always really loved it, and I’d play that game again in a heartbeat if not for the fact that I can’t get it to run on my current PC.

I’m still the guy who prefers Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords over the original KOTOR, not because I thought the first game was bad — it’s one of my favorites — but because you actually get to start as a Jedi up front, you have Kreia as your badass morally grey mentor, and the other companions are generally more fun and more interesting than the ones from KOTOR, except for Canderous Odo, who appears in both games. I’ll admit to missing Jolee Bindo, though.

So what about you? Are there any games you know have problems, be they story, buggy gameplay, a strange disconnect between systems, or something else that objectively isn’t good, but which doesn’t stop you from loving that game anyway? Share them with us.
