The Queue: More like Byegelon

I didn’t remember to take a picture of my bear next to him — but we did it! 10/11 Heroic Sepulcher!!

Rygelon actually took us most of the evening. Getting the timing right with the Quasar’s and dropping debuffs has always been the trickiest part. On Normal it was inconvenient to mess that up, on Heroic it was a raid wipe. I gotta say I’m not really a fan of these mechanics where if one person makes one mistake it’s game over. Especially after how many times we wiped to Anduin Blasphemy being dropped on the melee clump. The rest of Rygelon was fine, my raid has enough people pushing 15+ keystones that we overgear the raid pretty solidly now, so a lot of the damage checks are just being blown past.

Now we move on to the first few bosses on Mythic before coming back and getting the Jailer. In theory, they’re easier but I’ll believe that when I have Mythic Skolex and Dausegne on the ground in front of me.

While I look up what kind of fish I can catch using a giant dead interdimensional worm as bait, it’s time for — The Queue.

IN FLAMES OF DEATH’S ETERNAL REIGN, BOVEN WHITEHOOF RIDES TOWARDS THE FIGHT

Potentially Unpopular Opinion: The transmorpher beacon should not work in raids.

Boooooooo, boooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I do see where you’re coming from with the visibility thing though. I wonder if that’s something that could be baked into the Neural Silencers. So that you don’t have to turn off speech bubbles entirely if that’s something that you want to keep.

I’d hate to lose it entirely though. It can help break up the nights of wipes on bosses, and it can be a fun catalyst for trips down memory lane. Plus, it’s always fun pulling Grand Magistrix Elisande or Alythess/Sacrolash.

WHEN THE MISTAH JAY HAS FALLEN DOWN, AND THE TIMES ARE TOUGH ALL RIGHT

Q4tQ: Do we know if the new Dragonriding thing will incorporate pre-existing Dragon/Drake mounts already available? Should it (In your opinion, since it’s just a wireframe and/or skins)?

I’d doubt that it’ll incorporate the older mounts. Making it just the four new dragons means that the Devs can keep a closer eye on everything animation and bug-wise. It also helps to differentiate the mounts that can do the fancy new Dragonriding and those that can’t when you go back to the old content. Since it still remains to be seen if the Dragonriding will be a thing only available on the Dragon Isles.

If it goes wide to all content, then yes definitely make it something that all mounts can do. Plus add some trainers for it into the leveling path so that new players get it as they’re leveling.

THE SOUND OF MUSEDMOOSE LAUGHTER FALLS AROUND THE WORLD TONIGHT

Q4tQ: now that we’ve had a few days to absorb and process the Dragonflight info – and to get a lot more info from interviews and such – what do you think about the upcoming expansion?

For me, this has been almost entirely positive, which is a welcome surprise. After two expansions where I wasn’t thrilled with the announcements, I’m really glad to look forward to an expansion again. The Dragon Isles look good, and I’m glad the zones are going to be large since we’re not getting as many as usual. Dragon riding is a surprise, as are the dracthyr, but I’m interested in both, and the evoker class sounds interesting. I’m cautiously optimistic about the new talent system – it’ll be good not to have borrowed power again, and I like the idea of going back to the talent trees after ten years and finding a new way to do them, though it’ll take some actual use to see how well they work.

Also – and this is a big one – I really like that we’re not going off to stop some new threat to the world, but to explore and discover. This gives me serious MoP vibes, and that was one of my favorite expansions. Knowing that the Horde and Alliance’s groups are actively working together on this one really helps.

So overall, I think there’s a lot to like about what I’ve heard about Dragonflight, and if it keeps this up, I’ll probably come back to WoW when it starts.

Dragons! Ducks! Dragon people! New Talent Trees!

Yeah, there’s lots of cool stuff there. I can’t wait to see more of what we’re going to get and get a chance to try out Dragonriding for myself to see what kind of Top Gun shenanigans I can start to do.

It just feels like a really good basis for an expansion. Something that the community has wanted for a long time finally coming to pass makes it feel like when Legion gave us Demon Hunters.

I say all of this as someone who liked the last two expansions a bunch too. I’m just happy when Warcraft gives us brand new areas to explore.

ON TOWARDS ROXXII THE BELOVED OUR QUEST CARRIES ON

Q4TQ: How do you feel about the announced changes to mythic+ in Dragonflight? I worry about what not having all Dragonflight dungeon’s will actually do for gear acquisition. I get that having to refarm the same trinket each season isn’t the most compelling gameplay but I’d rather they revamp the affixes themselves than swap in old dungeons.

I’m not a fan of their proposed plans for season 1. I think that not giving us a season to play with the new Dragonflight dungeons is not great. They’re the new hotness, let us play with their toys and learn how they tick!

For the next pair of seasons, they could split the dungeons up and give us half Dragonflight and half old content. We’ll be ready for some variety by then. Season 3 would be extra fresh too since I assume by then they’ll have added a Mega-Dungeon into the rotation. If they hold to the pattern set in Legion anyways.

I am however fully on board with them looking at the gearing situation because yeah, I’m not as enamored with getting Blood-Spattered Scale again for the third time.

I have complicated feelings about Keystone loot as a raider. On the one hand, I love that I can get some top-quality gear from being good at dungeons, but on the other hand, I haven’t been eagerly anticipating raid kills as much this expansion. Don’t get me wrong, I love raiding and I love my raid — I want us to succeed and I love killing bosses with them. But the loot hasn’t been as much on my mind as I’m doing it.

Especially now with the Creation Catalyst.

The Catalyst is a good system, it’s helped a bunch of people who were having trouble making their bonuses able to get their power spikes when RNG isn’t cooperating. It’ll help me make a full Mythic transmog set of my gear, something that I can’t always do with my guilds progression, and as we all know Transmog is the real end-game.

However, it’s contributed to the aforementioned Keystone gear problem by taking some of the specialness out of raid loot.

WE FEEL THE PAIN OF A KALCHEUS LOST IN A THOUSAND DAYS

Q4tQ Are you planning on a different main for DF?

The thought had crossed my mind a little when the Dracthyr first showed up — but they have no Tanking spec, so no.

I like being a tank too much to give it up. Dracthyr may be super cool looking, they just don’t measure up to the cool factor of a werebear in my mind. I knew instantly that I wanted to play Guardian Druid when they showed off that form during the Legion deep dive. Sure I’ve dabbled a bit with the Zandalari dinosaur tank, and going back to the Nightmare and Stone bear forms from the artifact weapon, but nothing is as cool to me as the werebear. Ask me again if they ever announce Druid of the Flame and giant fire scorpion tanks.

THROUGH THE FIRE AND THE FLAMES JALAMENOS THE ASCENDED CARRIES ON

Question (that might get buried) for the BW writers:

Since WoW goes through long periods of nothing happening, how are your reactions on big reveals like Dragonflight?

Is it excitement to finally have something new to write about, or is it a feeling of being overwhelmed with so much new stuff to report on?

I’m easy, I love the big hype reveals.

It’s excitement through and through I’d say for all of us. Not to put too many words in my fellow writer’s mouths, but I’d say that we’re all here because we love these games and talking about them. So give us a big drop of information and we’re all happy to talk about it for days and days. Sure BlizzCon’s can be a bit overwhelming, but Liz herds cats with the best of them and keeps us all on track — even when I fanboy a bit too hard in the staff chat about meeting Trikslyr and Heroes of the Storm animator Lana. Because that’s the biggest issue around all of these launches and announcements, keeping the work chat focused enough to make sure that people are working on their posts between all of the “oh man, did you just see that duck!” comments.
