What would you think of more race/class combinations akin to Dracthyr in World of Warcraft?

With the Evoker class only being playable by Dracthyr and Dracthyr similarly only having the option to play Evokers in Dragonflight, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what other unique class and race combinations we could potentially see in WoW and whether or not they’d be good ideas. We’ve talked about how options from the Warcraft RTS series have been translated into WoW before, with Avatar mimicking the Mountain King ability to transform into a colossal stone form — but what if certain classes from the RTS were brought into WoW proper? Tauren could get a special Chieftain class, Orcs could become Blademasters, Gnomes could become Tinkerers, perhaps we’d get Human Knights and Night Elf Sentinels, and Troll Loa Ridden (I made that last one up but it sounds cool).

The idea of the base classes being locked to specific races, so that Humans can’t be Druids or Draenei can’t be Warlocks, has always seemed unnecessarily restrictive to me, though. I admit, I wish Dracthyr were going to have other class options than Evoker. So maybe the idea that if you want to play a Blademaster you shouldn’t be locked to playing an Orc is a bad one. It’s one I keep thinking about, though, because there are certain fighting styles and classes that feel unique to one faction or even one people — in WoW, Blademaster feels synonymous with Orc, for example.

Then again there’s the Demon Hunter example, where only specific people were trained and all the current Demon Hunters we see in game are part of that original group, and there’s nobody out there making more of them now. It makes sense that only Night Elves who traveled to find Illidan and Blood Elves who were part of Kael’thas’ forces were trained in the art — it fits what we saw in The Burning Crusade. So maybe you could justify Orcs teaching their allies in the Horde about Blademastery, but then we end up in the situation where only one faction has the class. I feel like the Shaman/Paladin divide was one of the biggest unforced errors in original WoW, so maybe it’s not a great idea to have classes locked to races that are in turn locked to one faction?

What do y’all think? Good idea, bad idea, needs work? Maybe all classes should be playable by all races? Let us know in those comments waiting there for you.
