Every gem available in Wrath of the Lich King Classic

Wrath of the Lich King Classic continues the the Jewelcrafting profession introduced in Burning Crusade Classic, retaining all of the mechanics for gem slots. There are a lot of stats to keep track of in Wrath, and many can be supplemented with gems. In addition to primary stats, a melee character needs Hit, Expertise, Attack Power, Critical Strike Rating, and Armor Penetration to increase damage output. Casters have Spirit, Spell Power, and Mana per 5 Seconds (MP5), and Spell Penetration. Gems continue to play an important role of balancing your stats and supplementing your gear with more of the stats you need.

In Wrath, each gem and gem socket will have a specific color, and by matching the correctly colored gems to correctly colored sockets will give you bonus stats. Gems come in six different colors — red, yellow, blue, orange, purple, and green — which indicate the kinds of stats they gave and the kind of sockets they fit into. Then there were Meta gems and Prismatic gems. In short, gems in Wrath of the Lich King Classic can get pretty complicated.

And in BCC, not all gems were available at launch, and certain gems — and the related cuts — became available in different phases of the expansion. We expect this to be the same in Wrath Classic, but we don’t yet know for certain which gems will make an appearance in which Phase — but you should be prepared for some gems not to be available on day one.

So you’ll still be able to gem up your gear in Wrath Classic. But when, where, and which gems? That’s a question we don’t yet have a complete answer for — and may not until Wrath Classic beta launches. But we can start figuring out gems in Wrath Classic by looking back on the original Wrath. So let’s take a look at all of the gems that should be available in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.

These gems offer a combination of stats and can be placed in two sockets, based on the colors they’re comprised of:

Every special gem in Wrath of the Lich King Classic

There are two more kinds of gems that don’t have a color: Prismatic gems and Meta gems. Prismatic gems are made by Enchanters, and they’re essentially any color. Meta gems are altogether different. Instead of giving stats, they provide a special bonus — and to activate them, you need to meet certain conditions, such as having at least three blue gems socketed. Usually top end helms, from end game content, had Meta sockets. Then there are Dragon’s Eye, which do have a color, but are for Jewelcrafters only.

How do I make my own gems?

Most of these gems come from the Jewelcrafting profession, which prospects gemstones from ore and cuts them so they can be socketed in our gear. However, it will take a while for Jewelcrafters to collect all of these recipes. Many of the recipes are available from Jewelcrafting trainers (as soon as players manage to level high enough to learn them), but some recipes players will have to track down, so it’s hard to tell exactly when you’ll be able to find them all. (Note that the Draenei race have +5 bonus to Jewelcrafting, so they’ll get higher recipes a tiny bit faster than everyone else.)
