World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic is coming in the first half of 2024
In a highly anticipated (and expected) move, World of Warcraft Executive Producer Holly Longdale announced that World of Warcraft Classic’s journey is indeed continuing in Cataclysm Classic. The latest Classic expansion is due out in the first half of 2024 for all players who want to take on Deathwing, for the first time or for the first time in a long time.
While players will also be taking on an old enemy, they’ll do so in a slightly different Cataclysm Azeroth. Not long after the announcement of Cataclysm Classic, Blizzard updated their World of Warcraft Classic page to include how the realms will change and some of the new features that will take effect when Cataclysm Classic goes live. For starters, it appears the current Wrath Classic realms will transition to Cataclysm Classic realms, much like the realms changed from WoW Classic to Burning Crusade Classic and then from Burning Crusade Classic to Wrath of the Lich King Classic. We know that the original WoW Classic Era realms will also remain as their own self-contained game because a new Classic season, Season of Discovery, is coming on November 30!
Cataclysm Classic boasts a smoother, streamlined leveling experience, easing the grind for the Classic players to reach the max level of 85. The Auction House and Group Finder are also receiving interface changes designed to make buying, selling, and grouping up much easier and intuitive for players to navigate. Dungeons themselves are also getting tuned to be more difficult and more rewarding as well, probably being an evolution of the Titan Rune Dungeon system from Wrath Classic. The first World of Warcraft transmogrification system also arrived in Cataclysm’s last major patch, 4.3, and when Cataclysm Classic launches, the transmog system will be immediately usable by all players. Mounts and pets will be unlocked account wide for all your characters to use. In short, the game will have #SomeChanges to make it work in a Classic setting.
In Cataclysm Classic, the entire world of Azeroth will change into the world players are familiar with today. There are new races joining each faction, with the Alliance being able to play as a Worgen and the Horde being able access to Goblins, with new starting zones and experiences for each. Players will also explore and level through seven new zones and take on new endgame challenges throughout the Cataclysm Classic journey.
