What games have you been playing lately?
As December rapidly approaches we’re now hitting a standard lull in the gaming calendar, with the selection of new releases probably the thinnest we’ll see all year — although there are a couple titles I’m planning to pick up next month. That said, there are still plenty of games earlier from 2023 that I’m still working on so the dearth of new titles is an opportunity to play them.
The top game on my list is Persona 5 Tactica which I’ve been playing since it released 10 days ago. I’ve already completed the main campaign (and I enjoyed the heck out of it) but there’s still the DLC with my favorite Persona character — no, not Akechi — as well as numerous achievements to complete. It’s a strong candidate for “Game of the Year” for me, although to be fair I’ve not played Baldur’s Gate 3 or Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom so I know that’s an outlier choice.
Besides P5T I want to spend more time with Stray Gods and Slay the Princess (my other main candidate for GOTY). While I’ve seen the ending of both games, there are a lot of choices still to make — especially in Slay the Princess — so I don’t feel like I’ve truly “finished” either game. Fortunately the playthroughs are on the quick side, so I don’t have to dedicate dozens of hours to complete them.
Which is good because I have two games I’ve recently picked up that I haven’t had a chance to start yet because of P5T. Love’s Crescendo and Arcadia Fallen are both in the Visual Novel genre, with the former also having a rhythm game mechanic while the latter is more of a “Choose Your Own Adventure” game. Arcadia Fallen also stars the English voice actress of my favorite Persona character which basically sold it to me, but the reviews are positive so I expect to have fun with it.
So what games have you been playing lately? Is there anything coming out over the next few weeks that catches your eye? And what do you still want to accomplish before 2023 ends?
