Crawl out through the fallout, baby: Fallout 4 next-gen update is coming out this month

Nothing makes Fallout fans more exicted than a Please Stand By

If you can’t get enough Fallout — and if you’ve already binged through the new Fallout series on Amazon Prime Video — you’re in luck because the long awaited next-gen update to Fallout 4 will be coming free to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC on April 25. Return to the Commonwealth in style with 60 FPS, enhanced graphics, and a few surprises. Stepping back into the shoes of Nora or Nate in stunning 4K will give us something to do while we wait for total conversion mod that fans have been anxious for — Fallout London — which may or may not be coming out this month as well.

But back on topic. First announced in 2022, the Fallout 4 update will not only enhance the game for next-gen consoles, but will also include bug fixes to correct issues that have developed over the nine years since its original release. With 4k televisions and larger monitors becoming more common, post-apocalyptical Boston was starting to look long in the tooth, and on an ultra-wide monitor it was near unplayable without mods. This update will allow enhanced resolutions, making this stunning game pop once more. Along with visual updates, there will be new items and quests available for free in the creation shop, including a Halloween theme pack, makeshift weapons pack, and quests introducing the Enclave — classic Fallout villains who also feature in the TV show — into Fallout 4. There are new platforms, too: Fallout 4 will be on the Epic Games Store and it’s now compatible with the Steam Deck so you can take the Commonwealth with you to go!

This update will be free to everyone who owns Fallout 4 — but if you don’t own the game, it’s currently on sale on most platforms. You can get the Game of the Year edition which includes all of the game’s excellent DLC on Steam or Xbox for just $10. The base game alone is on sale for $5 on PlayStation, but the GOTY edition is still full price ($40), making it less of a steal. If you have Amazon Prime — which isa also  the only way to watch the TV aeries — you can claim a free copy of Fallout 76 on PC or Xbox.

Though Fallout 76 had a rough start at launch, this multiplayer shooter has turned around to be one of the more enjoyable MMOs around with great customization, fun quests, and tons of in game events, plus the new Atlantic City zone just added this month. And it’s a good time to start: this is a double XP weekend and The Mothman Equinox holiday continues. Cultists of the fabled West Virginian cyrtid gather around the ruins of the Point Pleasant bridge along with ravenous deathclaws to make short work of Vault 76 survivors. Also, in promotion of the show, you can claim a Vault 33 jumpsuit and The Ghoul’s ragged cowboy outfit. Subscription is optional, so once you claim your copy, it’s yours to play.

It’s a good time to be a Fallout fan.
