How to Create a Character in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria

One of the main features of World of Warcraft Patch 10.2.7 will be the new game mode Mists of Pandaria: Remix. This game mode, launching May 16, will present a new self-contained levelling experience where all characters will start at level 10 and you will be able to level it to the current level cap of 70 using a streamlined levelling experience.

To get started playing the Remists experience, you will need to create a new character specifically for this game mode.

  • Select the Server you wish to create your character on.

If you’re already at the character cap, don’t worry! With the launch of 10.2.7, Blizzard are increasing the account character limit from 60 to 65 characters, these can all be on the one server or across multiple servers.

  • In the Character Selection screen, select Create New Character.
  • A Popup will appear asking you to choose between a Standard or Timerunning character.

Standard is a regular character on the retail servers, and will give you the choice of the racial starting zone or Exile’s Reach, the new player starting zone. Note that Allied Races seem to default to the racial starting area.

Timerunning will create a character in the new Remists version of the servers. These are instanced shards of the Pandaria continent in game. You will not be able to leave these zones on a Remix character until the end of the event, at which time the character will merge into the standard servers at their current level with any gear, achievements, or rewards they have collected.

  • To play Remists, choose Timerunning, and then choose your character Race and Class.

Character creation will then proceed as it would on a standard character type. You will be able to create a character of any race or class combination currently available in game, with the normal hero class character restrictions in effect. Some testing on retail indicated that connected realms are still considered seperate servers for purposes of applying character creation rules, so while you could create Dracthyr characters on each realm in a connected realm cluster, you will still need a level 50 character on each realm you wish to create the Dracthyr on. Dracthyr are still otherwise limited to one per server.

Because these characters will ultimately be merged with the standard retail character pool, name selection will be constrained by the same rules as retail. There are no duplicates allowed per server, and some character names are restricted due to perceived inappropriateness or because they are reserved for major lore characters.

During the event a character will have a small icon of an hourglass before their name to let you know they are a Timerunning character. They will otherwise appear in the list of characters for that server by whatever ordering preference you have configured. It will display the level, race, class and location in the same way a standard character does.

Once you have finished customizing your character, you will then be able to enter game and start your Pandamonium experience.
