Yes, transmog is free in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria

A transmog mount sits atop a rounded peak, with a Pandaren building in the background.

One of the many draws of making a timerunner for WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria is the heaping zeppelin-load of transmog options, both old and new, which will be available for purchase throughout the event. But how — when we’re paid in bronze and can’t send mail between Remix characters and regular ones — are we supposed to properly enjoy our new duds? Transmog in World of Warcraft is notoriously expensive, costing nearly a thousand gold to change an entire outfit at max level.

The answer, Blizzard Watchers, is that transmog swapping in Remix is completely free.

That’s it! Not a gold or a copper or even a bronze coin are required to change your gear’s appearance, so feel free to pop out your Ethereal Transmogrifier or your Grand Expedition Yak and mog away. (This is when the lack of heirlooms in Remix hurts — not for the stats, but for the empty gear slots I can’t show off my collection with!)

Is this transmog liberation a vision of things to come? Has Blizzard finally recognized that cosmetic changes which provide no game benefit should be free and available to all? Alas, we can probably still expect to be charged through the nose every time we want to fix our look in The War Within, because there’s a more likely reason for this feature.

You may also have noticed that your Remix gear does not lose durability, no matter how many times you Leeroy Jenkins off a building to escape a swarm of Sha Haunts. (I could have sworn that lake was to the left. Whoops.) The truth is, almost nothing in Remix drops gold or even vendor trash, with most kills granting Bronze instead. Even gear you don’t need can be converted into bronze by unraveling its temporal threads, and NPCs won’t buy it at all.

This does reduce the amount of conventional coin you have available to buy things like food, so it’s fortunate that we get so many bandages and potions in those treasure caches, as well as some very interesting scrolls. Ultimately, this choice feels like a way to play around with a high volume of expensive cosmetic rewards without disrupting the delicate auction house economy.

So what are you waiting for? Get on out there and rock those Remix mogs!
