With all these games coming out in the next six months, are we going to survive the onslaught?

While we are still in the launch period of The War Within it’s hard to think about what might be coming ahead on the horizon in the video game space. Yet even while we toil away at crafting, weeklies, unlocking new allies, and getting ready for the raid, time continues to march on. Here’s some upcoming games I think you should be keeping an eye out for — and there are a lot. It’s almost overwhelming the number of huge games coming out in the next few months, and this list is barely scratching the surface. There are things I’m sure I’m missing that other people are excited about — let me know so I can take a look! Unfortunately, that’ll only add to the list.

September 2024

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
September 9

The sequel to Relic’s 2011 third-person shooter; it looks like this time Captain Titus (voiced by Mark Strong) and two other Adeptus Astartes brothers will battle against the hordes of the Tyranids. While some of the early reviews are mixed, I’ve been waiting for this game for years now and can’t wait to stomp some bugs with my big power armor boots.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
September 26

Perhaps they should have titled this one “The Legend of Link,” as we’re playing as Princess Zelda for once! Using the art style from Link’s Awakening, Echoes of Wisdom sees Zelda having to save Link while using the power of the Tri Rod to create “echoes” of objects from around the world. Echo monsters, tables, cubes of water and… meat? This is guaranteed to be cute.

October 2024

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred
October 8

While I have been a little down on Diablo 4 lately, it’s my hope that Vessel of Hatred will do for Diablo 4 what Reaper of Souls did for Diablo 3. Having recently done a bit of a deep dive into the playstyle of the new Spiritborn class, I’m actually pretty excited to try this one out. As a raider in WoW, I’m always ready for more group content so the new co-op dungeon sure seems to be my jam.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
October 31

Unlike some of my fellow writers, I haven’t been closely following The Veilguard. I’ve attempted to get into Dragon Age: Inquisition about a dozen times now and have never made it more than a few hours in, but it looks like BioWare has taken their time on this new Dragon Age title and I am hopeful it’ll be great. Besides, I can never say no to creating my own Rook.

November 2024

Mario & Luigi: Brothership
November 7

It’s been some time since the last Mario & Luigi game (the last non-remake was in 2015), and now we have one coming to the Nintendo Switch; this new title also features Kevin Afghani voicing Mario, now that Charles Martinet has moved on to new horizons. The Mario & Luigi series of games are RPGs, which brings it’s own fun into the mix. Keep an eye out for this one.

Dragon Quest 3: HD-2D
November 14

Dragon Quest 3 may be one of the most beloved Dragon Quest titles in the series, and it’s getting the HD-2D treatment. Square has been knocking it out of the park with their HD-2D games, and we can only hope they continue making these. Now where’s Chrono Trigger HD-2D?

And into 2025

Donkey Kong Country Returns (HD)
January 16, 2025

For those unfamiliar with Donkey Kong Country Returns, it was originally released for the Wii in 2010. While mostly known for its difficulty and being a modern take on the Super Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Country, Nintendo has decided this HD remaster would also include levels from the 3DS release. Try not to go bananas while you wait.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars
March 6, 2025

An RPG series loosely based around the Chinese novel Water Margin, Suikoden had five mainline games come out in the United States, the last of which was released in 2006. Suikoden 1 and 2 were well regarded even years after their release, driving the used market of both PlayStation titles well into the triple digits. Konami announced this remaster years ago and we’re finally going to see it, so this is definitely one to grab in case it up and vanishes after the initial release.

Monster Hunter Wilds
“Summer” 2025

Capcom’s sequel to Monster Hunter World, Wilds is looking to bring back World’s gameplay style with updated graphics, new locations, and non-gender specific armor. I can’t wait to drag Phil into the fight against Rey Dau (where I am sure Deviljho will appear to wreck our faces).

DOOM: The Dark Age
“Sometime in 2025”

DOOM really needs no introduction. You can play the original DOOM on just about anything, and DOOM (2016) may be one of my favorite shooter games of all time. This prequel title sees the Doom Slayer being dragged back into medieval times to deal with the hordes of Hell.
