How to unlock Dual Spec on WoW Classic Anniversary realms

Vanilla Talent Tree

One of the quality-of-life changes added to World of Warcraft Classic‘s anniversary realms is dual talent specializations, also called “dual spec,” originally introduced in Wrath of the Lich King. Dual talent specializations went live on November 26 in North American realms and will rollout onto each regions’ realm during the December 2-December 3 weekly reset window. This gives players in each region a little over a week to unlock dual specs before the arrival of the Phase 1 raids on December 12.

Dual spec functions as a basic loadout system for your talent abilities and gives you access to a second, blank talent tree that can be filled out with another set of points without having to go to a class trainer and paying a reset fee. It doesn’t have to match how you filled out the first tree so players can choose completely different talents that grant greater flexibility or capabilities in different roles ranging from questing and raiding to PVP.

Here is how to unlock dual talent specializations on Classic anniversary realms!

How to unlock and use Dual Talent Specializations

Players can unlock dual talent specializations once they reach level 40, at which point they can learn it from any class trainer aligned with their faction for 50 gold. Class trainers are available throughout Azeroth and can be found in different towns and areas but they can be reliably and easily found in faction capital cities:

  • Stormwind City
    • Old Town — Warrior, Rogue
    • Mage Quarter — Mage, Warlock
    • Cathedral Square — Paladin, Priest
    • The Park — Druid, Priest
    • Dwarven District — Hunter
  • Orgrimmar
    • Valley of Honor — Hunter, Warrior
    • Valley of Spirits — Mage, Priest
    • Valley of Wisdom — Shaman
    • Cleft of Shadow — Rogue, Warlock
  • Darnassus
    • Cenarion Enclave — Druid, Hunter, Rogue
    • Temple of the Moon — Priest
    • Warrior’s Terrace — Warrior
  • Ironforge
    • Military Ward — Hunter, Warrior
    • Mystic Ward — Mage, Paladin, Priest
    • Forlorn Cavern — Rogue, Warlock
  • Thunder Bluff
    • Elders Rise — Druid
    • Hunter’s Rise — Hunter, Warrior
    • Spirit Rise — Mage, Priest
  • Undercity
    • Magic Quarter — Mage, Warlock
    • War Quarter — Priest, Warrior
    • Rogues’ Quarter — Rogue

Once you purchase it, you’ll see two tabs in your character’s Talent menu. The first tab, labelled “Primary Talents,” is the talent tree you’ve filled out so far on your character during levelling. The second is labelled “Secondary Talents” and will be empty and ready for you to fill out. You can switch between these different ability loadouts by clicking activate at the top of the talent menu. You can only do this out of combat and it does have a cast time and animation, so you can’t move either. Dual spec only covers talent abilities so if you choose to spec into another tree, you’ll need to find or create the gear that goes with it — and carry it in your bags.
