Watch five ‘dangerous’ pets enjoy a good grooming, courtesy of Girl With The Dogs

On this most Monday of Mondays (thus far in 2025), I turn to content discovered in another dark period (the Pandemic). Enter one of my favorite YouTube channels, Girl With The Dogs. Wait, you’re not familiar with it? Let me introduce you to this absolute wonderland of domestic (but sometimes dangerous) animals with a selection of the internet’s favorites in this channel’s back catalog.

Channel owner Vanessa De Prophetis had professionally groomed pets for almost a decade before 2020. She launched her initial account on TikTok to “educate pet owners on how to care for their scraggly pets” (while also curing her boredom). Now, her YouTube and TikTok accounts have millions of followers, and her content creation success allows her to take on some truly challenging grooming cases.

Meet “the Killer Kuma,” an intense-looking 120lb. American Akita with exactly two visible emotions (according to a brilliant YouTube commenter): Blowdry bliss and stoic confidence. American Akitas are physically powerful and aggressive, especially with other dogs; their neutral expressions and behavior can make them a challenge for dog owners of any expertise because they may not telegraph attacks. Regardless, Kuma enjoys his grooming (at least the drying off part) and enjoys a romp around the yard before returning home. (P.S. — get more Kuma content on his human’s Instagram.)

Next up is another American akita — Khan, at 105 lbs, getting his first bath and grooming (and a bunch of treats for good behavior). Yes, the American akita is considered one of the world’s most dangerous breeds, but luckily, Khan’s most dangerous plan during his visit was to soak his groomer. He looks like a very dapper gentleman at the end of the video.

Binky the Beautiful may look terrifying to some, but this rottweiler is an absolute gem for bathtime and blow-dry. However, nail clipping is clearly not his favorite activity — some early warning behavior leads to both muzzle and Cone of Shame time to complete the dreaded activity. Like our earlier akita friends, rottweilers are considered one of the most dangerous breeds, often due to their protective natures and intense bite strength (328 ppsi!) leading to unfortunate tragedies with strangers in their homes. Binky completes his groom with a comb-out and looks sleek and dashing.

Finn is an absolute sweet baby who has never done anything wrong in his entire life, and he is certain his grooming appointment will, in fact, kill him. Siberian huskies sing a heck of a song — seriously, you might need to turn down the volume while he dries off). However, they are also a strong, stubborn, energetic breed with another potent bite force (320 ppsi) that requires both extensive training and regular exercise. Even a sweetie like Finn tries to take a warning nip when his paws are involved, although the worst he gets away with in the video is availing himself of the outdoor lavatory once he gets into the yard.

For our final contender — yes, I know this isn’t a dog, but are you really surprised that the video with the highest number of views is of a cat attacking the poor groomer? Jackson Sonic is a Maine Coon cat with quite the range of emotions at his first grooming — from tolerant to bitey, which is countered with the Cone of Shame. Ultimately, Jackson completes the process despite lodging complaints with ownership and is a lovely little prowler.

BONUS! Sullivan, the 9-week-old rottweiler puppy, is getting his first bath and groom. He is a perfect baby who does not deserve the torture of bathtime. But seriously, who doesn’t relate to Vanessa’s chant of “I don’t need another dog” in the face of such sweetness?

Now, for the serious business: a combination of elements is at play when we talk about dangerous animals. Breed genetics and associated behaviors often result in the classification of “dangerous,” but how you raise an animal also plays a huge factor — nature and nurture are a combo! If you want to adopt a potentially dangerous pet, do your homework (you can start here at Dog Academy!). For every overall positive grooming experience included above, untold numbers of animals have had tragic lives because of breed concerns. Be smart, put in the research time, and you too can have a sweet and dedicated* companion.
