World of Warcraft: Midnight news coming at Gamescom 2025 — are we getting a beta announcement?
Much has been quiet on the news front when it comes to World of Warcraft‘s next expansion, Midnight. Well, someone get the bingo cards ready! As we predicted, we’re getting some Midnight news during this year’s Gamescom — hopefully starting with Opening Night Live on August 19! But what does “news” mean?
Well, the most obvious possibility is a beta announcement, along with all the delightful “new expansion coming!” details we missed out on in the Worldsoul Saga flurry. The best news of all would be a Midnight release date announcement, but I’m sorry to say it’s still a little too early for that. Even if we continue to assume an early 2026 release (as we did in the roadmap), we probably won’t have a formal release announcement for another few months.
However, the Blizzard post also touts “a few additional surprises.” We all know now that Legion will be the next expansion to get the WoW Remix treatment but that sneaky fel green on the roadmap hints that maybe, just maybe, it’ll drop this Winter to ease the pesky content drought between 11.2.7 and Midnight. Maybe we can anticipate a WoW Remix: Legion start date to come out in the mix!
The additional possible news that may just result in collective Blizzard Watch implosion involves player housing. Blizzard has been really on the ball about regular updates on this much-desired feature, with updates on interior design, housing decor philosophy, and even letting content creator get hands-on. But we’ve been speculating hard thanks to yet-another roadmap banner — that house icon definitely falls before Midnight. Could player housing rollout details be on the horizon?
Gamescom has historically been a popular event for Blizzard games announcements alongside BlizzCon. From big events like the World of Warcraft: Legion expansion reveal with trailer and roundtable discussion, to the smaller, like Return to Karazhan, it’s a community-focused venue where Blizzard can drop news. But don’t hit the edge of your seat just yet — Gamescom Opening Night Live (ONL) is our first chance at these details, and it isn’t until Tuesday, August 19. Until then, you can always relive Gamescom ONL of years past through their thegameawards YouTube Channel playlists: 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2019.
