Midnight Player Housing test on the WoW patch 11.2.7 PTR is now over

Set on a table is a wooden mug carved with the words, Home Sweet Home.

Player Housing is a long-desired feature in World of Warcraft, and there was certainly some unhappiness when the Blizzard team announced that the feature required would require you to own Midnight to try it out.  Well, players on the fence now have a chance to test-drive the feature (again)m this time focused on the guild neighborhood aspect. From Thursday, October 30, through Friday, October 31 Through Monday, November 3, the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm will make Player Housing available for testing by anyone, whether you’ve pre-purchased Midnight or not.

After announcing this short test, Blizzard again changed the schedule of the housing PTR, leaving Player Housing available through the weekend. Further, they’ve fixed a bug that prevented you from moving your house, so you can now hop around between neighborhoods and jump between plots. However, housing went offline on Monday, and currently there are no announced plans for future testing — though Blizzard hasn’t given much advance notice for previous tests, and more housing testing could happen.

If you haven’t been on the PTR before, we have instructions on how to download the client and log on!

Join the second Housing Early Access Test on the PTR!

We’re running another Housing limited-time test on the Public Test Realm (PTR) beginning Thursday, October 30 through Friday, October 31—this time focusing on guild neighborhoods. Please work together and create guilds large and small to help us test out the guild neighborhoods feature of Housing.

To kick off this test, all existing houses and neighborhoods have been reset. You won’t need to have Midnight on your account to take part, however it’s important to note that this test is for an in-progress feature and we may either periodically take down this test or cancel it at any point in time as necessary.

We’ll update this thread once the housing test has begun. We look forward to seeing you on the PTR!

This first cycle of testing was quite the experience, with players making wild creations (and running into the occasional bug). However, the guild neighborhood testing notably suffered as there were few communications around the requirements for a guild neighborhood, and the error messages when you attempted to create your own neighborhood were generic. We currently suspect that you need ten players to make a guild neighborhood, which stymied the minimum player count guilds that were trying out the feature in the previous PTR.

Since Blizzard specifically wants to test guild neighborhoods this time around, hopefully there will be some clearer information on the process in game. With the servers scheduled to come online today we should find out soon.

There’s a lot more coming in 11.2.7 — it also sets the stage for Midnight‘s pre-patch. We’ll experience Quel’Thalas-focused Lorewalking, another cycle of Turbulent Timeways, the re-opening of the Brawler’s Guild, an updated New Player Experience, and (most exciting) the final round of heritage armor for our Pandaren friends. But the Housing Early Access is the real highlight of the patch, let’s be real. And the amount of interactions we’ll have with housing in 11.2.7 is surprising! Players will have the following features available in the patch release, and we’re presuming these are also the features for testing:

  • Decor Collection/Room Decorating
  • Room Layouts
  • Neighborhoods
  • Guild/Charter Neighborhood Creation
  • Legacy Content Rewards
  • Profession Rewards
  • Flying in Neighborhoods
  • New Housing Tutorial

Now remember, this is still a PTR — Blizzard can and may take down the test or have to reschedule it if there are any major issues. If you’re eager to get testing, here’s how to download the PTR client; however, please note that the servers are not yet online.

So we’ll see you on the World of Warcraft Public Test Realms from October 30-31. We have some Player Housing features to beat up test drive, with no Midnight purchase required. Be there or be square.
