Midnight Season 1 Race to World First recap, day 2: Welcome to the Voidspire (it’s almost time to leave the Voidspire)
Midnight’s first Mythic raids opened on Tuesday, March 24 on NA realms, marking the start of the Race to World First. Mythic opened in Europe slightly later, on March 25, and opened in China late in the same evening. Mythic difficulty is now open in all regions, so the race is truly on. This is something of a complicated raid tier, as it includes three raids (one of which hasn’t opened yet): the six-boss Voidspire, the one-boss Dreamrift, and the two-boss March on Quel’Danas which opens on March 31. But for now, we’re focusing on the Voidspire, a raid in which we’re finally attempting to deal with that pesky void portal hovering over Silvermoon.
For World of Warcraft’s top-tier raiders, it’s another chance to see who’s the best raid group in the world. And for the rest of us, it can be a lot of fun to watch. If you want to keep up, we have a guide on where to watch the top three teams — Liquid, Echo, and Method — who all have extensive livestreams with commentators to help you keep track. But if you don’t have the time to watch all-day streams, we’ll be posting daily updates right here on Blizzard Watch.
Last week, when raids opened in Normal and Heroic difficulties, these raid guilds focused on gearing up through raids, dungeons, delves, prey, and crafting… and with this week’s reset, guilds made quick work of weekly gear sources on day 1, and headed into Mythic on day 2, where they’ve made some truly astonishing progress.
Here’s the current state of the Midnight Season 1 Race to World First in Voidspire.
World First! Imperator Averzian down to Melee Mechanics
The guild Melee Mechanics jumped in early to pick up the world first kill for Imperator Averzian, and did some pulls on other bosses before heading off to do splits for more gear. Alpha came in to take the world second kill and just sit me took world third. It’s pretty normal for the biggest raiding guilds to take their time before jumping into Mythic, and Melee Mechanics has a history of grabbing early world firsts.
After Averzian, raiders can choose to go to two different bosses: Vorasius or Fallen-King Salhadaar.
World First! Vorasius down to Nurfed
Vorasius seems to be the easiest of these, and was the next boss to die, with Nurfed taking the kill, followed by Incentive and Project One.
World First! Chimaerus down to Liquid
Chimaerus is the the first and only boss in the Dreamrift raid, and Liquid started here. Chimaerus has some great loot for a lot of classes, and Liquid downed Chimaerus several times in splits. Mythic splits aren’t exactly common, but the fact that Chimaerus is a one boss raid makes it more accessible than most. Liquid got several kills before other guilds had the chance.
Chinese guild Huoguo Hero got the world second kill on Chimaerus, and Chinese guild Jitianhong got the world third. Even though Chinese guilds are very late to the race, they’re fighting hard for their place on the leaderboards — and the cash bounty Netease offers to any Chinese guild that wins the race.
World First! Fallen-King Salhadaar down to Liquid
Liquid, Instant Dollars, and Tempo were all pulling Salhadaar at the same time, with Liquid and Instant Dollars having comparable pulls… but Liquid pulled ahead to secure the world first victory. Instant Dollars got the kill not long after, after a tragic 0.6% wipe. Tempo came through after that for world third.
World First! Vaelgor & Ezzorak down to Liquid
This dragon duo went down quickly to Liquid, but as of this writing no other guilds have taken down this boss. This leaves Liquid with a healthy lead, but they’ll be heading to bed in a few hours, while Echo and Method are both just starting their days. European guilds may catch up quickly.
What’s next? Lightblinded Vanguard
This council fight pits players against a trio of paladins, and they’re proving to be a bit more resilient than the earlier bosses. Liquid has gotten the boss to 57% after 14 pulls — the first boss to go into a double digit pull count.
After this, there’s just one more boss in The Voidspire: Alleria, who’s likely to be a bit tougher than the rest. But if Alleria goes down this week, then we’re waiting for March on Quel’Danas to launch on Tuesday. It’s another two-boss raid, with the phoenix Belo’ren and the dark Naaru L’ura.
The state of the race is likely to change a lot in the next 24 hours as European guilds have a full day of progression after NA guilds head to bed, and Chinese guilds continue their raid rush, progressing faster than any of the competition. Even though a lot of bosses are down, the race isn’t over.
I’ll be back with another update for day 3 to cover the latest progress. In the meanwhile, you can find up to the minute updates on Raider.io or watch the Race to World First guilds playing live to see the action as it happens.
