Player Housing was disabled immediately after WoW patch 12.0.5 due to critical bug, but it’s back now
Patch 12.0.5 launched Tuesday in World of Warcraft, and while there were a lot of features players were excitedly looking forward to — Decor Duels, Abyss Anglers, or even helping Decimus help us by finishing the Voidforge — the patch also launched with one major thing players were not expecting or looking forward to: critical bugs that caused the Player Housing system to be disabled, at least in the US and Oceania.
Fixing this bug is a top priority for us, and while we work on it, we’ve decided to open realms on patch 12.0.5 with Housing and Neighborhoods disabled in this region (The Americas and Oceania).
Once we have a fix developed and tested, we will perform an additional brief maintenance in this region to bring Housing back online for everyone.
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.
Update: Housing is enabled again, though Blizzard has not provided an update on what caused the problem. Things seem to be working after a brief maintenance on Wednesday morning.
This wasn’t just a simple disabling of the housing zones, either. The entire system was disabled top-to-bottom — players were unable to even pull up the Housing Dashboard or learn new decor! Again, this only applied to the US and Oceania — Europe doesn’t get patches until Wednesday, and this problem never seemed to hit EU servers.
What’s not clear is if this is something that could have been caught during testing in the first place. Player Housing was disabled for the entirety of the 12.0.5 PTR cycle; if it was not, this potentially could have been caught before. Without the ability for players to even poke their noses into the system on the PTR, this bug presumably went unchecked until servers went live.
