Diablo 4 will have a Season 16, and possibly more, despite the Diablo 5 announcement

During BlizzCon 2026, the Diablo 4 developers confirmed that development on the game will continue beyond the upcoming Season 15, Season of Hell’s Legacy, with future seasons — plural — already planned. While you might think this was an obvious next step, the announcement of Diablo 5 brought up some questions on what future development would look like for Diablo 4. And apparently it’s full speed ahead for the game; while we don’t yet have confirmation of what specific things Season 16 will have, we know that it’ll exist, and probably lead to Season 17 and beyond.

The biggest news about upcoming seasons from the Diablo 4: What’s Next panel — other than the fact that yes, they will continue to exist — is that these seasons will no longer necessarily function as isolated stories. Season 15 and the seasons that follow it will continue the narrative introduced in Season 14, Season of Death Awakening: the dead are returning to Sanctuary, and the Death Cult keeps growing stronger and pursuing its own nefarious goals. This “season arc” was confirmed in the panel, and should continue “over the next year, leading up to the release of the Amazon,” by which point we’ll be able to confront the Aspect of Death.

So we have a brief idea of what the story in Season 16 and beyond will be, and we know that systems like War Plans will receive further refinements, including playlist customization and more seasonal variation. But for now, Season 16 has no announced title, release date, theme, seasonal mechanic, or a detailed feature list. And if the game sticks to its typical schedule, we won’t have details on Season 16 for a few months.

What BlizzCon did establish is that Season 16 will exist, and that game updates are a long way from being over. That’s good news for players who enjoy Diablo 4.
