Last week we talked about what you might expect to see in a Diablo 4 in terms of the story.

The lore of the Diablo franchise has gotten deeper and more involved with every new game, expanding from the small town of Tristram and the catacombs beneath the cathedral there to a globe-spanning adventure that led to Hell itself and finally in Diablo 3 we went to the Heavens and Pandemonium in turn. We've seen nightmarish monsters, Baal's army overwhelm the Barbarians and the destruction of the Worldstone, the siege of the Crystal Arch and the Nephalem stand triumphant against a former Archangel with the power of all seven Evils in its grasp.

Last week we talked about Imperius, the Archangel of Valor and de factor head of the Angiris Council.

It's not a demon, it's not an angel, it's definitely not a Nephalem. What is Trag'Oul, and how did it come into existence?

From this whirling nightmare, this bloated ruin of the first evil's corpse crawled the demons. The Burning Hells could in a real sense be said to be the blackened corpse of Tathemet itself, and at the center of the Hells lies the Black Abyss, from which rose the Great Evils. Essentially birthed from the seven heads of Tathemet, there were the three Primes -- Mephisto, Baal and Diablo -- and the four Lessers.

For today's Know Your Lore, we're putting on our tinfoil hat and speculating about the nephalem of Diablo 3.

Because I promised you some Diablo Know Your Lores, today we're looking at the origins of the world of Sanctuary, the mortal realm that has seen the machinations of the Prime Evils as well as near-extinction at the hands of Malthael, the former Archangel of Wisdom and current Angel of Death.
