Blizzard to hold press conference at Gamescom
We already knew Blizzard was going to be at Gamescom this year — but now we know they have something they’d like to tell us about. In addition to their usual appearance, they’ve scheduled a press conference for August 5th, according to this press schedule and Mamytwinks.com, a french WoW site. (Note — the press schedule PDF seems to have the time incorrect for the press conference, listing it at 12AM when it seems to be at 12PM.) So what is Blizzard going to announce at Gamescom? We have no idea.
Rumors are flying around, of course, as rumors tend to do. Back in 2013, Blizzard announced Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls at Gamescom. With the WoW player base being told that Warlords of Draenor has had its final content patch in patch 6.2, a lot of players are anticipating a content drought similar to the one at the end of Mists of Pandaria — and a Gamescom announcement of the next WoW expansion would go a long way towards easing those fears. But we don’t know that’s what’s coming.
Considering that they’re going to have their usual booth and demos, them having an invite-only press conference seems like a big move, and frankly a WoW expansion feels like the only thing they have left to announce. We already know Overwatch is on track, Hearthstone just got another expansion announcement, StarCraft 2 and Heroes of the Storm likewise, so if it’s not WoW at this point I honestly have no idea what it could be. Perhaps another Diablo 3 announcement? We’ll see this August 5th at 3AM PST / 6AM EST.
