The Queue: Burning questions
Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!
Why does Medivh have a mini-planetarium in his innermost sanctum? Was it something he knew about, or was this a secret Sargeras hideout for spying on the stars and figuring out which world to next destroy? And while I recognize a couple of those planets, there are many, many more that aren’t familiar at all. What are they? I guess we’ll never know will we — but hey, I can answer your questions and at least provide some answers today.
QftQ: Which are more war-like, the tauren of Mulgore or the Highmountain tauren?
The ones in Mulgore, definitely. Even before the nomadic tribes united under Cairne and joined the Horde, they were fighting centaur. And being members of the Horde means that they’re regularly in military combat situations as of the last 10-15 years or so. In contrast, the Highmountain were four unified tribes that lived fairly peacefully until recently. Heck, they even regularly traded with the drogbar — they didn’t particularly care for the drogbar, and vice versa, but they got along well enough.
How would the WoW universe be different if Velen had also joined with Sargeras in the beginning? Would having all three eredars from the start made the Legion so powerful they’d have destroyed all the planets? Or did having one of them traverse the universe, leading the Legion to planets like Draenor actually further their cause?
Well the biggest difference right off the bat is that we can assume Orcs wouldn’t be on Azeroth — they were discovered because one of Kil’jaeden’s agents found the Draenei. If the Draenei weren’t a thing, there’d be no reason for the Legion to focus on Draenor at all. It had no world-soul, and wasn’t really noteworthy. The Legion might have recruited the ogres or the arakkoa just due to their proficiency with magic, but it’s doubtful — they weren’t exactly powerful enough to call attention to themselves like the kal’dorei and the Well of Eternity. Given the kind of power Velen has exhibited, though, I feel like the Legion would’ve been a lot more successful, and maybe Azeroth would’ve actually fallen to the Legion long, long ago.
Is it just me or did they rename battle net launcher into blizzard app? Hate seeing app in name of something on taskbar.. Ugh…
They did — we knew this was going to happen, they announced their intention to re-brand the service way back in September of last year. It’s a little odd, but I’m sure people will get used to it over time. I’m going to have a hard time calling it anything but battle.net though — it’s been called that for so long that it’s just an automatic term to me by now, and something I’m going to have to actively train myself out of using.
Q4TQ: Is that Metzen voicing Kil’jaeden? If so, does that mean he still has a periphery involvement with WoW, despite being retired?
Nope! That is Lex Lang providing the voice of Kil’jaeden in the trailer. He’s got some pretty amazing pipes and a lengthy resume that includes a metric ton of video game voice work. Don’t worry, I thought it was Metzen too at first — a few of the lines sounded just enough like Thrall that it made me think it was him.
Is Archimonde dead-dead, or do you think he will appear on Argus, waiting for us or something?
Theoretically, yes he’s dead. You aren’t supposed to be able to completely kill a demon unless you do so in the Twisting Nether. In Mythic difficulty, Archimonde’s final phase involves pulling the raid into the Twisting Nether, where he is then defeated. However, that may or may not actually be canon — we don’t know, and I don’t think it’s ever been officially confirmed one way or another. Personally I think we’re probably done with Archimonde, we’ve killed him twice now after all, even if the first time didn’t quite stick, but we don’t have canon confirmation so I can’t really give you a definite yes or no.
