New Overwatch Uprising event announced
If you were wondering how Overwatch was going to go about showing you the past of its setting with the graphic novel’s cancellation, they’ve unveiled their answer. Yesterday’s leaked video for Overwatch Insurrection has been replaced with today’s official announcement for Overwatch Uprising, which tells the story of Tracer’s first mission with Overwatch.
Twenty years after the Omnic Crisis, an attempt was made to create a place in London for Omnics, part of an overall push for improved Human/Omnic relations. Sadly, the Omnic extremist group Null Sector launched an attack on King’s Row in London, one that left hundreds dead and thousands more running for their lives. An Overwatch squad responded to the attack, including Tracer (called ‘rookie’ by Morrison in the video) — Jeff Kaplan described it in his Developer Update as a mission from the ‘golden age’ of Overwatch.
Uprising is intended to be similar to Junkenstein’s Revenge, but not linked to a real world holiday. It’s meant to be a “cool moment in Overwatch’s history” that allows the player to do a bit more of a PVE encounter. And it also shows off some of that lore behind the setting in an actual in-game event, instead of through tie-in media.
So line up and get to playing through Tracer’s first mission, a conflict in King’s Row between Overwatch and Null Sector. You can get various Golden Era Overwatch skins for Reinhardt, Tracer, Mercy and Torbjörn, as well as Talon Widowmaker, Blackwatch McCree, and Blackwatch Genji. There will be a standard Uprising mode in the Arcade with the four Overwatch members who ran the original mission, and then a special version of Uprising where you can play as any character and just go wild. Overwatch Uprising runs from April 11 through May 1 — have fun and I hope you get that Blackwatch Genji skin.
