New Overwatch comic Doomfist: Masquerade
A new Overwatch comic is now available, and it’s a doozy that brings us up to present day. In Masquerade, we see the events immediately after Doomfist breaks out of prison, as shown in his introductory animated short. From there, it’s a whirlwind of information as Doomfist attempts to reconnect with Talon…with mixed results. Not everyone was happy to see Akande freed from prison, and Talon itself has made a few changes in direction since he’s been gone…changes he’s not particularly happy about.
Written by Michael Chu with art by Ryan Benjamin, Masquerade neatly weaves together all of the events we’ve witnessed so far in Overwatch, all the while giving us a closer look at the inner workings of Talon. There are flashbacks to Sombra, Widowmaker, and Reaper’s activities in their respective animated shorts. And while the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, it’s an intriguing one that leaves you wondering just where the story is going to go from here.
Beyond that, it’s blatantly clear that Sombra isn’t as beneath the notice of Talon as previously thought. Additionally, that assassination attempt in Russia wasn’t in Talon’s best interests — according to Doomfist, Volskaya is far more valuable alive, as “she’ll keep the fight going.” This seems to be pretty important as far as Akande is concerned…and his absence hasn’t hindered him at all. Doomfist is back with Talon, but is Talon ready to fall back in line? You can read Masquerade in full over on the official Overwatch site, or check out the motion comic version of the story courtesy of Madefire.
