How do you feel about that whole Order Hall experience?

Now that Legion is on its way out the door, it’s about that time where I start thinking about the stuff we got to play around with in the expansion and how it did. I have to admit that I was initially a little wary about Order Halls. After spending a large chunk of Warlords in my garrison — let’s face it, the majority of Warlords isolated in my garrison — I was a little leery of the specialized area experience. Were we going to be stuck in our Order Halls? Was it going to be another situation where the outside world didn’t have enough to keep us engaged? A paltry number of quests that didn’t really seem to go anywhere of significance?

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Did I spend a lot of time in my Order Hall? Yes — to a degree. But that was all tied to a class-oriented storyline that really seemed to hit the sweet spot on the engagement factor. Each class had its own unique story, some better than others, but all pretty entertaining for the most part. Outside of that, the Order Hall was more like a home base of sorts, a place where I checked in, ran a few errands, and then ducked back out to see what the world at large had to offer.

And I think it’s all that outside content that made the Order Hall successful, in my eyes. I didn’t feel like it was the only place that had anything to do. There were lots of things to do, from patch to patch, all over the Broken Isles and beyond. The Order Hall was just that place where I went when all my journeys were over for the day. It was a convenient spot to  do one last tally of gold, sell off anything that wasn’t immediately useful, and queue up a few missions if necessary.

More importantly, I never really felt alone. I was constantly surrounded by members of my own class, from both sides of the faction divide. The isolation that made the garrison feel so utterly depressing at times was simply absent from the Order Hall experience — I never felt like I was too far away from other players. It was kind of nice being around people that also chose to play the class I played, there was a certain degree of kinship there.

I’m actually going to miss the things. I mean yes, both faction capitals in Battle for Azeroth are staggeringly beautiful. But I’m already wondering where those little hotspots of activity are going to be this time around. Kul Tiras and Zandalar are both wide-open worlds with plenty of places to explore — I have no idea where people are going to settle. I have even less idea of where I’m going to pick for my home base this time around. But I’m looking forward to seeing where it leads.

What about you guys? How do you feel about your Order Halls? Do you think the experience was worth it? Did your opinion of your Order Hall change over the course of the expansion? And are you going to miss them when they’re gone?
