The Mole Machine racial allows Dark Iron Dwarves to travel to alternate timelines

Not just alternate timelines, either. The folks at Wowhead have rounded up the findings from the Secret Finding Discord as they play with the Mole Machine racial of the Dark Iron Dwarves, and man, this is a racial ability that’s got more utility than any racial I’ve ever even heard of. It allows players to travel to locations in the Eastern Kingdoms, on Kalimdor, floating in the Twisting Nether atop Outland, the frozen wastes of Northrend, the mist-shrouded shores of Pandaria, and even the alternate timeline of Draenor.

It’s not quite as easy as just pushing a button. First off, you need to find one of the mole machines already out in the world. There’s nothing in your spell book that tells you where they are, which is why the Secret Finding Discord got involved. The mole machines seem to be placed in locations that have some connection to Dark Iron. Places where figures like Ragnaros have influence, or places that have resources like rare metals or, in the case of Pandaria, rare brews for them to sample.

Let it never be said that the Dark Iron aren’t still Dwarves.

How to discover mole machines

So yes, you’ll have to travel to the locations first before you can hitch a mole machine ride. Once you have, you’ll have an easy transport option to particular locations throughout Azeroth, Outland and Draenor, including the Broken Isles. Wowhead has a current list of found locations, and it’s pretty extensive.

Old world Azeroth

Kalimdor explorers will find themselves able to travel to three locations. First, there’s the Throne of Flame atop Mount Hyjal, near the Firelands raid portal. They can also travel to Honor’s Stand in the Southern Barrens next to the Great Divide torn across the Barrens by Deathwing. Lastly, the volcanic Fire Plume Ridge mountain at the center of Un’Goro Crater can be paid a visit. All three of these locations are either related to Deathwing or otherwise volcanic in nature.

In the Eastern Kingdoms, the Dark Iron can travel to Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands, the Masonary at Blackrock Mountain, and Nethergarde Keep in the Blasted Lands. The Nethergarde Keep machine is there both before and after the Keep is destroyed by Garrosh Hellscream’s Iron Horde.

Northrend and Outland

Dark Iron Dwarves in Outland should look out for the mole machines in Blade’s Edge Mountains’ Skold region. They can also head to the Shadowmoon Valley Fel Pits location. If you’re in Northrend, you can find mole machines in the Ruby Dragonshrine in Dragonblight and the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown. Meanwhile, Pandaria boasts mole machines at One Keg in the K’un-Lai Summit, and the Stormsong Brewery in the Valley of the Four Winds.

The track of the Legion

Dark Iron visitors to Draenor can find mole machines at the Blackrock Foundry in Gorgrond, and the Elemental Plateau in Nagrand. Finally, if you’re rallying to fight back the Burning Legion on the Broken Isles, you can find mole machines at the Broken Shore near the Aalgen’s Point flightmaster, and right outside Neltharion’s Lair in Highmountain. All told, it’s a bit of work, but you’ll be very mobile across the various expansions of World of Warcraft. Needless to say, this should come in handy while leveling up. Heck, just considering the utility for transmog runs has me salivating.
