Blackwing Lair coming to WoW Classic in February

classic nefarian

Blackwing Lair is one of the best raids, and also the most frustrating raids, that World of Warcraft has ever produced. It’s the raid where so many lessons were taught to so many players in the old days. So many Rogues had to skulk their way through that Suppression Room, so many Warriors made sure to spec into Mortal Strike for Shadow of Ebonroc, and that class call on Nefarian made so many Priests into tank killers.

It’s the raid from the old days, in my opinion. AQ40 and Naxx were good, but it’s Blackwing Lair that made me into a main tank, that taught me how to do corner pulls, how to arrange CC, how to try and cope with six ranged mobs in a pull, and so much more. And now, at last, it’s coming to WoW Classic, so you can experience it for yourselves.

And not just Blackwing Lair, either. On Wednesday, February 12 at  3:00 p.m. PST (6:00 p.m. EST) in addition to Blackwing Lair, we’ll be seeing a host of content dropping simultaneously on all WoW Classic realms.

  • Blackwing Lair
  • Level 50 Class Quests, rewarding class specific blue items that will last until the first level 60 drops from dungeons like Scholomance, Stratholme and Blackrock Spire.
  • Eternal Quintessence from the Hydraxian Waterlords, making it easier to deactivate the runes in Molten Core once you reach revered with them.
  • Similarly, new reputation rewards for the factions the Argent Dawn, Thorium Brotherhood, Timbermaw Hold, Silverwing Sentinels, and Warsong Outriders that were originally released in patch 1.6 or 1.7 will go live.
  • Slightly before Blackwing Lair, the Darkmoon Fair will go live on Monday, February 10th after the setup begins the previous Friday, February 7th.

In addition to all of that, players who want to get the jump on attuning to Blackwing Lair will be able to start on the quest Blackhand’s Command starting on Friday, January 10th, giving you plenty of time to run UBRS, kill General Drakkisath, and touch the orb behind him to attune to the raid itself. And remember, you can run UBRS with 10 players to get more people attuned faster. You’re going to want to get comfortable going into Blackrock to mind control mobs to give you a fire resistance buff anyway before you fight Vaelastraz, you might as well get used to it.

God, I loved Blackwing Lair. Y’all should be looking forward to this, it’s maybe the best raid you’re going to get all WoW Classic. Shaman, get ready to run the Earthbind Highway, and Mages, you might want to farm some gold for your repair bills when you go out in a blaze of glory during Lab trash.
