You’ll be able to equip two Legendaries in patch 9.2 (with one big restriction)

We’ve gotten confirmation that in Shadowlands patch 9.2 players will finally be able to equip two legendary items. This isn’t that surprising, since back in Legion we were able to equip two legendary items at the same time by the end of the expansion. I don’t doubt that we’ll need every iota of power that we can get our hands on to stop the Jailer from harnessing the reality rewriting powers of the Sepulcher of the First Ones.

However this time there’s a caveat to using two legendaries. According to an interview with Game Director Ion Hazzikostas, your first legendary can be any of the currently equippable legendaries, but your second will have to be your Covenant-specific legendary. Some players and specs really like their Covenant legendaries, and use them as their primary legendary currently, but then there are others like Night Fae Balance Druids who really don’t like the Celestial Spirits legendary for raiding, usually choosing to use the Primordial Arcanic Pulsar.

Another issue with using Covenant legendaries as the only second one that players will be able to equip is that with the ease of Covenant swapping that we got in patch 9.1.5 players will have to create a bunch of extra legendaries to remain competitive as they change. You could wind up spending hundreds of thousands of gold on ensuring that you have a legendary ready for each Covenant. Especially since there’ll be additional ranks of legendary power to unlock in patch 9.2.

At least for players who are tired of running Torghast to gather the Soul Ash necessary to build those legendaries that will no longer be the case. Hazzikostas confirmed that the new legendary materials would be something that players earned through exploring Zereth Mortis. Torghast isn’t going away, and players will still be able to go back into it to collect the cosmetics and achievements from it, but it doesn’t look like 9.2 will see much in the way of new features in Torghast.

I’m happy that we’re getting the additional legendary item, I just wish it wasn’t restricted to the Covenant-specific one. We’ll find out more about how this all fits together as we get the patch 9.2 public test realm which Hazzikostas says is coming “very, very soon.”
