When is Dragonflight Season 2?

We’re currently in Dragonflight Season 1, but with Blizzard’s speedy content roll-out plan, we may be heading to Season 2 sooner than you think. We know that Dragonflight Season 2 will launch shortly after patch 10.1, and will include a new raid, a new Mythic+ dungeon rotation, and a new PVP Season. And we can make a pretty reasonable guess as to when it came out, because Blizzard released a detailed 2023 content roadmap showing the patch 10.1 release date between spring and summer.

The roadmap assumes a very fast release schedule. Patch 10.0.5 launched on January 24, less than a month after the patch was initially announced. That’s a very quick turnaround indeed for World of Warcraft, but it’s the kind of pace Blizzard will have to keep up to meet its own schedule. If we’re getting six WoW patches in 2023, that’s a new patch every other month, putting us on a schedule of having a new patch one month, a new PTR the next month, and a new patch the month following, right up to the end of the year. In fact, we’re already hearing that the patch 10.0.7 PTR is imminent, and if Blizzard tests the patch for about four weeks we could see it going live in March, and the patch 10.1 PTR would have to come soon after to keep to this pace. That suggests we’ll likely see patch 10.1 go live in May 2023.

That gives us a time period to zoom in on. If patch 10.1 drops on May 23 as we’re currently predicting, we can expect Season 2 to start a week later, which would give a Dragonflight Season 2 release date of May 30, 2023. But if patch 10.1 launches a little later, on May 30, Dragonflight Season 2 would similarly be pushed back to June 6. That would make Dragonflight Season 1 rather long, but even in Shadowlands we saw Seasons lasting anywhere from 12 weeks to 32 weeks. So far, Blizzard hasn’t been very consistent about Season lengths, and our schedule estimate fits in with the general trend of Season lengths while also accommodating the accelerated release times we’re seeing for Dragonflight.

That’s all we know about Dragonflight Season 2 so far, but we’ll update this post with the latest details.
