Which classes should (eventually) be available for Dracthyr?

Last week, Game Director Ion Hazzikostas revealed that the developers plan to implement other classes for the Dracthyr besides Evoker. The actual phrase used was “wield weapons and cast Frostbolts” which indicates plans not only for melee classes but also other spellcasting classes in addition to Evoker. More class-race combos are always good, and while this wasn’t a promise or an indication of when this could occur — “high likelihood down the line” was the exact wording — it does mean we can start imagining which Dracthyr characters we may roll in the future.

Of course, there’s no guarantee all classes will be available, especially right off the bat. While we now have seven classes that every non-Dracthyr player race can choose — Monk, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Death Knight, Warrior, and Hunter — even those shouldn’t be assumed to be a valid choice when we can roll Dracthyr of other classes. Of these seven, I would expect four to be available right away: Priest, Mage, Warrior, and Hunter — with Monk and Rogue perhaps posing a challenge animation-wise and Death Knights being hard to fit in with current lore.

The other five classes are possible but have inherent obstacles. Warlock and Paladin are possibilities even though they might stretch the lore some in order to fit in (that said, Paladin is probably my second choice for a new Dracthyr). Druid is hard to argue for with so many other races chomping at the bit to play one, and Demon Hunter feels pretty unlikely — although one wonders if a Dracthyr Demon Hunter would get triple or quadruple jump.

That leaves Shaman, which is the class I most want to play as a Dracthyr. Besides the fact that “draconic” totems would look pretty cool, it’d be interesting narratively for a Dracthyr to wield the elements after all the issues they’ve had with Primal Incarnates in their history. One can even imagine there’d be some intra-racial tension between the Shaman and other Dracthyr similar to the discrimination Orc Warlocks once had to deal with.

Which classes would you like to play as a Dracthyr? Do you like the idea of a Dracthyr Shaman, or do you think it wouldn’t fit the race? And do you think Dracthyr Paladins would get another set of wings when they cast Avenging Wrath, or would their existing wings glow instead?
