What we know about the Secrets of Azeroth event, starting August 31
The upcoming event Secrets of Azeroth event starting August 31 has so many tones of globe hopping and clues for players to decipher as we unravel the mystery of who is committing a series of thefts, it feels like they missed a step by not calling it “Where in the World of Warcraft is Carmen Sandiego.” All they really need to add is a kicking a capella theme song.
Each day from August 31 to September 13, players interested in finding out who is responsible for heisting a bunch of ancient artifacts will receive a new clue. For the two weeks of the event, each new clue will point players on the trail of the dastardly thieves (or perhaps simply a singular thief) and the rewards shown by Blizzard so far include:
- Pattie the Alpaca mount
- a cute little pup named Tobias
- the Titan Key weapon transmog
- Tricked Out Thinking Cap toy
- Torch of Pyrreth toy
Other potential rewards include the Inquisitive title that’s been datamined. Blizzard has shown Deerstalker Hats similar to the ones from the 10.1.5 PTR on both Pattie and Tobias, indicating that these hats may be linked to a toy, or otherwise placeable on other heads than your own — though we’re always on board for player cosmetics. All we know for sure is that the things listed above are just some of the potential rewards for solving the clues and unraveling the mystery.
It’s basically a gigantic scavenger hunt — not too dissimilar to part secret world events that allowed players to collect mounts and pets through complicated mysteries that were unraveled by players working together, like the Hivemind and Slime Serpent mounts, or pets like the Sun Darter Hatchling and Jenafur the void kitty. These secrets have been popular with players and are clearly the inspiration for the Secrets of Azeroth event, but those secrets came with no real fanfare from the devs. Players just noticed the bread crumbs and started following them on their own. They also weren’t timed the way the Secrets of Azeroth will be, with a new clue dropping every day from August 31 to September 13.
So if you like getting rewards for solving clues, your chance to shine arrives on August 31. Log on every day to discover a new clue and point yourself in the direction of the culprit who is stealing all the treasures of Azeroth. Where in the World of Warcraft will the Secrets of Azeroth take you?
