WoW patch 10.2 brings new Druid forms for all specs
Druids may not be getting a new legendary in World of Warcraft patch 10.2, but Druids will be getting some fantastic new shapeshift forms. The patch, Guardians of the Dream, is sending us to the Emerald Dream — which by default makes it a Druid-focused patch. We’ll be battling more Druids of the Flame, defending the new World Tree, and (presumably) diving into other aspects of Druid lore.

So it’s no surprise that there are a bunch of new druidic goodies to collect, including new shapeshift forms. Shapehifting has been a core part of the Druid class fantasy since release, with the Druid abilities and identity strongly tied to which stance you are in at any given time — originally just a basic cat form or and bear form. New forms have been slow to arrive in the years since: Moonkin form was added in patch 1.8.0, updated cat and bear forms in patch 3.2 (alongside the Moonkin Glyph of the Stars), Tree form in Mists of Pandaria patch 5.0.4, Artifact Weapon appearances for bears and cats in Legion patch 7.0.3, and revamped shapeshift forms have come with new races.
Blizzard has paid more attention to forms in recent expansions, though, with both Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands adding options — though Moonkin forms have remained fairly static all the while. So it’s good news that a new Moonkin form appears to be coming in patch 10.2, as well as new bear, cat, and travel forms.
Here’s what we know about Druid shapeshift forms in patch 10.2.

Blizzard has also announced that the fire kitty form will get a model update, so get thee to Firelands if you want this form, as it’s available now — either by getting Fandral’s Flamescythe or Fandral’s Seed Pouch, both of which drop from Majordomo Staghelm.

The source of the recipe is a chance to be found in a Dreamseed Cache scattered around the zone. One of the components of the inscription glyph is a single Auric Fleece, which is looted from Elusive Auric Argali, which is summoned using a skinner’s bait near the Raw Argali Pelts on The Forbidden Reach:

Druid flight form in patch 10.2
Early in the new zone you’ll meet Q’onzu, the Loa of Change. This puzzling critter has the form of the new creature: a somnowl, which are scattered around the Emerald Dream. Datamining suggests we will be able to get our own Somnowl form, with four variations available to players.
- Mark of the Slumbering Somnowl created with a Somnowl Feather Strand, requires 5 Soft Somnowl Feathers — you collect the feathers after you cast Hibernate on a Somnowl sending it to sleep. Once it’s asleep, clicking on the owl will channel a spell called Carefully Pilfering Feathers, and it will then apply a rebuff to the owl called Recently Plucked which will prevent you from plucking it again for five minutes. Once you have collected 5 feathers, you will need to combine it with a Runed Writhebark (there doesn’t seem to be a quality requirement), and a single Silken Thread.
- Feather of Friends (Azure) — Druid only Quest reward from the quest The Answers You’ve Earned.
- Feather of the Blazing Somnowl — should you manage to kill Mythic Fryakk and earn Anu’relos, Flame’s Guidance, druids will also get a flight form in addition to the mount.
Druid aquatic form in patch 10.2
The final form is an aquatic form called the Dreaming Nae’dra, which is unlocked using fishing inside the new Amirdrassil, The Dream’s Hope raid. This last form was finally located by Adam on the WoW Secrets Discord server and is the last form sourced.
This form requires a multi-step farming activity, you will need access to the following wings to unlock it:
- Wellspring Atrium — Igira the Cruel’s room, available in Raid Finder Wing 1, opens the week of November 14.
- The Scorched Hall — Volocross’s room, available in Raid Finder Wing 2, opens the week of November 21.
Note that you will both sets of 10 fish at the same time to get the buff. If you’re fishing in Raid Finder wait until you have all the fish before progressing. You will need Dragonflight fishing to get these fish, but exactly what skill you’ll need isn’t certain yet.
- In the Wellspring Atrium, fish up 10 Slumbering Moonfish from one of the pools.
- In The Scorched Hall, fish up 10 Awakening Sunfish from one of the lava pools in Volocross’s room.
- Return to the Wellspring Atrium and toss all 10 Moonfish and 10 Sunfish into the largest pool in the Atrium, you will now get the buff Attuned Angler which will last for 30 minutes.
- You should now see a Prismatic Whiskerfish fishing school in the largest pool in the Atrium. Fish until you catch Xena, the Whimsical Whiskerfish. If you fail to catch her before you lose the Attuned Angler buff you will need to repeat the first three steps to get it again.
- Once you have caught Xena, release her back into the waters of the Wellspring Atrium at the same location as the pool where you fished her up. She will reward you with the Scale of the Prismatic Whiskerfish. Use the item from your bag to unlock the new form.
We still haven’t identified how the Dreamfish Egg will be used — it may relate to a mount or some other secret.
