The Great Vault will no longer have a PVP track in The War Within, to be replaced with new World track

If you’d been wondering what’s happening with the Great Vault in World of Warcraft’s War Within expansion, wonder no longer. While the Raids and Dungeons tracks will remain largely unchanged, the PVP track is going to be replaced with a World track. Game Director Ion Hazzikostas dropped the news during BlizzCon 2023′s WoW Deep Dive panel and explained the goals for PVP and World gearing moving forward.

The World track helps support Blizzard’s desire for an evergreen loot progression system for outdoor players, helping complement the new Delves coming to WoW in The War Within — and staying around for at least the next three expansions. Those of us who love exploring every nook and cranny of Azeroth, trying to find all of the world’s treasures, pets, and secrets. Blizzard sees you, solo players, and they want you to feel like you’re getting awesome endgame loot, too.

With that in mind, here are the Great Vault tracks and their weekly requirements in The War Within:

  • Raids: Defeat 3, 5, and 7 Bosses
  • Dungeons: Complete 1, 4, or 8 Heroic, Mythic, or Timewalking Dungeons
  • World: Complete 1, 4, or 9 Delves or World Activities.

And yes, this also means players can run much more than just Mythic+ to fill out their Great Vault track come Season 1 of The War Within. Not surprisingly, loot rewarded will scale based on difficulty. According to Ion, Delves are intended to, at the highest difficulties, reward loot equivalent to Mythic+ keys in the 10-15 range. Of course, the specifics are still TBD and subject to change — but it sounds like Blizz is determined to make no one single playstyle feel left out.

But what about PVP in The War Within? Blizzard hasn’t forgotten you — they recognize that it doesn’t feel as good if you both raid and PVP to have to choose between loot. They also understand the value of being able to clearly select specific PVP gear for your spec. Removing the PVP track from the Great Vault is being balanced by a larger reward grant of Conquest when completing activities. You can clearly buy the gear you want at any time, and if you’re starting the season a little late you’ll be able to catch up and slay with the best of them.

Overall, this continues to reflect a philosophy that everyone’s playstyle should feel rewarding and reward you, the player, with amazing loot. Keep it coming, WoW team. You’re doing an amazing job.
