When do you think we’ll get information on BlizzCon 2024?

2024 keeps chugging ahead and we’re already more than a quarter of the year through. While there’s a lot we’re still waiting for this year there’s one event that’s gotten nary a mention yet: BlizzCon. While an official announcement typically would’ve occurred by now, it’s important to note that BlizzCon 2023 wasn’t announced until May 17 last year — although it had been unofficially confirmed earlier. The lack of news is therefore a concern, but I haven’t given up hope yet.

There are a couple reasons to expect no BlizzCon this year: namely the ticket sale struggles for last year as well as the layoffs earlier this year. There is however one giant reason to expect it, and that’s the anniversaries for the Warcraft franchises — Warcraft is turning 30 and World of Warcraft is turning 20. Their anniversaries are typically celebrated in mid-November and a BlizzCon 2024 that takes place at the same time would be a perfect opportunity for people to celebrate together.

I regularly stalk the Anaheim Convention Center event calendar, and I can’t help but notice the weekend of November 15-17 — which coincides with the Warcraft anniversaries — is still open. Of course, there have been rumors that BlizzCon is moving to another venue (with Las Vegas being the main candidate for a relocation) but until that is confirmed I’m assuming Anaheim going forward.

All that said, when could we hear an update? You would have to think it would be soon; not only is time running out, there’s a lot of Warcraft activity happening in the next couple months: Season 4, patch 10.2.7, Cataclysm Classic, and of course, the alpha and beta for The War Within. An interesting possibility is an announcement coinciding with the Summer Game Fest in June, as that has become the premiere gaming event, but that would be the latest possible moment — and if there isn’t going to be a BlizzCon, I doubt that’s when they’d tell us. In the end I believe that we’ll know for sure by mid-May either way, perhaps alongside an announcement of The War Within alpha or beta.
