World of Warcraft 2024 roadmap details the end of Dragonflight and the beginning of The Worldsoul Saga

Reminiscent of last year’s 2023 roadmap announcement, World of Warcraft Executive Producer Holly Longdale and the WoW team provided players a look at the year ahead with a 2024 roadmap giving us a look at all of the content coming in the new year. That means we have our first look at the schedule the final stretch of Dragonflight and the start of The Worldsoul Saga, which begins with The War Within. World of Warcraft’s 2024 roadmap is just as ambitious as its 2023 counterpart with five patches, two Seasons, and an alpha and beta test for The War Within. And that’s just for retail WoW! Blizzard also released a separate, concurrent WoW Classic 2024 roadmap that highlights the next phases of WoW Classic Season of Discovery and the beginning of Cataclysm Classic.

Since the 2024 roadmap mirrors the 2023 roadmap, we can expect the release cadence to be similar with a new patch occurring roughly every 8-9 weeks. Here’s what’s coming up:

  • January 2024: Patch 10.2.5 will include epilogue quests winding down the story, as well as Dragonriding worldwide and new stories for the Gilneans and Azerothian Archives.
  • Early 2024: Originally, we thought there would only be a patch 10.2.5 and 10.2.7, but a mysterious patch 10.2.6 patch has taken a noticeable place between the two. What it entails is still unknown, but a black flag with a skull emblazoned on it usually means one thing.
  • Spring 2024: The War Within alpha is scheduled for testing at the beginning of spring, at the same time as patch 10.2.6.
  • Spring 2024: Dragonflight Season 4 arrives with a new set of Fated Raids, a new Mythic+ rotation, and a fresh PVP season to keep us busy until The War Within launches.
  • Spring 2024: Patch 10.2.7, probably launching in April, will be called Dark Heart, a foreshadowing of the things to come. Trolls and Draenei will receive their heritage armor and we’ll also get a new holiday event!
  • Summer 2024: The War Within beta is scheduled for the start of summer 2024 coinciding with the end of patch 10.2.7.
  • Summer 2024: The Worldsoul Saga begins with The War Within pre-patch, 11.0.1. It will bring new world events to the game, which will likely be set up in 10.2.7. The flight system will also be overhauled into Dynamic Flight, a re-tuning of the Dragonriding system meant to encompass all mounts, as well as the implementation of Warbands and cross-faction guilds. Patch 11.0.1 doesn’t have a release date but it’s likely to happen around mid-late June.
  • Summer/Fall 2024: The War Within expansion proper is next up on the schedule, with a likely September release date. The much-anticipated expansion is loaded with a new campaign featuring old and new allies and zones, the new Delves activity, and the new Hero talent system just to name a few things.
  • Autumn 2024: Rounding out the year is patch 11.0.5 with more story quests following up the events of the War Within, system updates, and a celebration of WoW’s 20th anniversary. It’s really hard to say what else could be in patch 11.0.5 since we saw some smaller things appear in later versions of the 2023 roadmap as the year went on.

The WoW 2024 roadmap simultaneously caps off an ambitious 2023 development/release cycle while teasing so much more that players can look forward to in World of Warcraft’s next chapter!
