We’re one year out from BlizzCon 2026, so how seriously are you considering attending?
The countdown to the return on BlizzCon has now crossed the one-year mark, which gives us plenty of time to reflect on the possibility of trying to attend one of the most prestigious gathering of awesome nerds in the known universe. After a three-year hiatus, anticipation should be high by the time things kick off for BlizzCon 2026.
There were too many highlights to give a complete list from the last BlizzCon in 2023, but one of the major reveals was the triple-expansion Worldsoul Saga that World of Warcraft players are now in the void-scarred middle of. There are sure to be more huge announcements, stunning cosplays, and enough swag to tempt almost every fan of a Blizzard game into considering the trip.
Perhaps the most significant factor in deciding whether or not you’ll attend is the distance you’ll need to travel. Fans who can see the Anaheim Convention Center from their apartment window will have an easier time committing than those living in Australia or Japan. For many it would be a quick weekend getaway, and others might need to dedicate a whole week of vacation to make a trip to California worthwhile.
There’s also your level of enjoyment for this type of event in general to consider. Even if you’re close by, cons might not be your thing. There are crowds, lines, noises, confusion, and many other negative aspects of being crammed into a space with thousands of other humans.
Luckily we have technology to bring us to BlizzCon even if we can’t physically be there. The ability to stay home and watch many of the panels and announcements live (while playing the games they focus on) might tip the scales towards some folks staying home to enjoy the festivities from the comfort of their own cozy gaming den.
I have never attended a BlizzCon, but with one year to go I am very much considering the trip. From Boston it would be a significant but not ridiculous amount of travel, and my fondness for World of Warcraft has only increased over my decades spent on Azeroth. I got a small sense of how cool the community was at the Warcraft 30th Anniversary celebration, and I imagine that BlizzCon would feel like that event amplified to 11 in every aspect.
So are you researching cheap flights and the best tacos in Anaheim in anticipation of being able to head to BlizzCon 2026? Are you on the fence? Or will you skip the crowds and watch from your brand new Player Housing rec room?
