We’ll finally be able to transmog across armor classes in Midnight patch 12.2.5

All ye transmoggers, rejoice, for your fashion wardrobe will soon™ have fewer restrictions! In Midnight patch 12.2.5, we finally get to transmog our gear across all armor types “without restriction.” Paul Kubit announced this great detail at the end of the BlizzCon 2026 World of Warcraft What’s Next panel to the raucous cheers of the audience.

No more searching for the perfect piece to complete your extremely fashionable new outfit, only to find that it’s a different armor class. This change not only opens up a world of possibilities but it also reduces the need to farm similar pieces across multiple armor types (looking at you, various crowns from the Battle of Dazar’alor raid). Blizzard has been slowly loosening restrictions for transmog as we go, which as much as I am loathe to admit is the smart way to go about it. It’s better to add things the players want rather than take something away that unintentionally caused issues.

Though Paul said “without restriction,” we’re kind of wondering if that’s just armor pieces in general or if it also applies to more specific pieces. Notably absent was whether or not this includes class sets. Class sets have been in that murky area where you can technically get some lookalike pieces that match it, but the entire set is usually reserved for a specific class. There is also that dichotomy between giving players options and preserving class integrity. Is it so bad if a Death Knight is wearing the Priest tier 3 Faith set? The Priest in me recoils at the thought (and also the fashionista, pale blue and gold is not Death Knight aesthetic), but as someone who frequently says “follow your heart” and encourages everyone to embrace their inner glitter (even Shadow Priests), I have to be in favor of opening up transmog truly without restriction.

Patch 12.2.5 looks to be coming in spring of 2027 according to the World of Warcraft: Midnight roadmap, though we’ll have to ask Phil for likely patch dates. Dust off your transmog lists, take a gander through all the gear options, and get ready to look good. What will you transmog first?
