In my zeal for completing…well, everything, I went back to the Terrace of Endless Spring last week and tackled the raid on Heroic. More accurately, I went in for a piece of gear for transmog purposes, and decided to just finish the entire raid. What I didn’t realize was that I hadn’t so much as attempted Heroic Sha of Fear before. Needless to say I was slightly taken aback when I found myself teleported to a vast expanse of nothing right in the middle of the fight. For a minute or two, I though the encounter had glitched out and chucked both myself and the boss through the world. Whoops!

I like to think that the Lich King is fully aware that there’s a pint-size singular hero still angrily poking at his ankles, and he’s just desperately trying to avoid breaking character, all the while inwardly bemoaning the fact that he’s stuck performing with amateurs that won’t stick to the script. He went to Juilliard. He’s a professional.
Meanwhile, I still don’t have Invincible.

You know, I’m pretty sure it was a really awkward family reunion, but this little tableau of elves made me terribly happy. It’s nice to know that despite their many differences, all of them will still come together to fight for a united cause. Granted, it’s a world-ending kind of cause, but hey, at least they’re trying to get along.

I haven’t quite finished the Nightfallen quest chain, but I think I’m nearing its end — and I’m a little sad about that. Suramar is hands-down my favorite zone I’ve ever played through in this game. Just on the merits of that one zone alone, I think Legion is poised to nudge Mists of Pandaria out of the number one spot on my favorite expansions list. We’ve still got a lot of expansion left to play, but I can already tell I’m going to really, really miss this place when we’re gone.

I had a weird experience the other day. After zoning in to the Northrend location of Dalaran for some good old fashioned transmog farming, I discovered Tirion’s statue had gone missing. In its place was the original Dalaran fountain. Supposedly the fountain should have been replaced on the server first kill of the Lich King. But for some reason, this one stayed put — although it has the plaque to start the cinematic for the Lich King’s death. I’m not sure why there’s a discrepancy here, but it was pretty nice to see the old fountain back in action again.

I think it’s about that time where I point out once again that I’d really love to see full-blown art prints of all the lovely painting scattered around Azeroth. This collection from Suramar is just beautiful. I mean, it’s not my absolute favorite — that title belongs to the strange painting of whale meat — but I’d gladly hang any of them in my office.
The Queue: Will it fountain?

The first thing I do when I run into an item that can only be used in water is to test said item in Dalaran’s fountain. Why? Because I can. It turns out the Love Boat from the Love is in the Air event can be used in the fountain — although it despawns almost immediately after it’s been summoned. So the answer of whether or not it will fountain is a solid sort of. I have many more solid answers for you in the column below.

Continuing on with the ceiling tour — did you know the Violet Citadel has this crazy ornate wallpaper on the ceiling? For some reason, whoever built the upper balconies decided to wallpaper the ceiling below. It’s been there since Wrath (you can see it in both versions of Dalaran), but I don’t think I’ve ever noticed it until now. I need to make it a point to look up more often!

I think my favorite part about the Xavius encounter in Emerald Nightmare is the distinct lack of…anything. That blank, gray nothing is somehow more terrifying than any hyper-rendered environment we’ve been plunked into over the years. I particularly like how the ceiling is just a vague criss-cross of something that might be branches, or vines, or any number of wholly unpleasant things. It’s just blank enough for your brain to self-insert all kinds of horrible things that might be lurking just out of view.

I’m not sure who they’ve got over at Blizzard working on plant models — but whoever they are, they managed to one-up the gorgeousness of Draenor’s plant life from last expansion. I didn’t think that was possible. We’ve come a very, very long way from the trees of vanilla — anyone remember those? They were just a series of flat panes that looked really, really fake when you got up close. I don’t know where we’re going next expansion, but I’m hoping wherever it is, it’s got a lot of plants.
