Breakfast Topic: BlizzCon, anyone?
Let’s go back a year ago to March 12, 2015. It was a time of Draenor and mirth, garrisons without thrall. Life was … savage. And on this day a year ago, BlizzCon 2015 was announced.
Is Blizzard about to announce a new BlizzCon today? Unlikely, it’s a Saturday. Was Blizzard going to announce it last week, but other news got in the way? Unlikely. Is Blizzard going to announce it next week? At this point your guess is as good as mine. We’ve heard a lot of unsubstantiated rumors and water cooler talk, but we haven’t gotten any proof that something is about to be announced.
One of the big questions though, is how much people are actually going to care. I’m not so sure that the WoW crowd is going to be as bombastic as its been in past years. There’s been a lot of general fall off, and less enthusiasm for the game then it’s had before. Now that isn’t to say there’s not a bunch of good will towards Blizzard as a whole, there certainly is, but the base of that support isn’t exactly energized. Is this going to result in BlizzCon 2016, when announced, not being such a big thing? Probably not — but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it fail to sell out as quickly as it has in the past.
What do you think, dear readers — is the BlizzCon hype real this year, or has it cooled off a bit?
