What’s your favorite crazy Shadowlands theory?
We all already have crazy Shadowlands theories, right? We’ve all been playing World of Warcraft for years, we love coming up with crazy theories for this game. My personal favorite theory is that, by the end of Shadowlands, we’re going to defeat the Jailer but in the process we’re going to shatter the Maw and release not only all the souls that were taken there against their true destiny, but all the evil jerks who were supposed to be there. So both Gul’dans, Arthas himself, Deathwing… they’re all going to return to Azeroth. Archbishop Benedictus, Cho’gall, Onyxia and Nefarian, Rend Blackhand — every single evildoer in the history of World of Warcraft is going to return to the land of the living and start it all over again.
Sure, maybe we’ll get some good guys and some morally grey folks back too. Maybe we’ll get Varian back — I mean, he died during the Broken Shore, so likely ended up in the Maw, along with Varok Saurfang, the dead from Teldrassil, and maybe Garrosh Hellscream. What about Malygos? Ysera? Maybe they come back too and the Dragonflights are restored, because all of the Old Gods, including Y’Shaarj, also come back and they need to fight them.
This sounds pretty wild, I agree. But let’s not focus on all the dead that could come back, because there could be all sorts of other weird theories you might have. Maybe at the end of the expansion, the rip in the sky over Icecrown Citadel becomes permanent and the Lich King takes the place of the Jailer, becoming the new Jailer of the Damned in a much more direct sense than he already was. Maybe the realms of the Shadowlands end up superimposed onto Azeroth itself, and become permanent physical additions to the realm of the living that one could sail to or otherwise access while still alive.
So now that I’ve gone on for a bit, let me ask you — what’s your crazy Shadowlands theory?
