Sanctum of Domination Race to World First: Kel’Thuzad has been killed by Echo, as World First guilds close in on Sylvanas

The Race to World First for the Sanctum of Domination is coming to a close, as two guilds have now defeated penultimate boss Kel’Thuzad. Echo has retaken the top spot in the World First race by killing Kel’thuzad! The guild had spent much of Friday doing splits to collect gear, giving Limit the chance to overtake them and snag a World First kill on Fatescribe. But newly geared up, Echo came in and brought down Kel’Thuzad in just 22 pulls. Not to be left behind, Limit got the world second kill just an hour later, after 71 pulls.

Kel’Thuzad was the final barrier standing between Sylvanas and the guilds brave enough to take the fight to her, and he’d been fully empowered by the Jailer to do his bidding — and he did his best to use that power to make frozen corpses of all who would challenge him. Right off the bat Mythic Kel’Thuzad is going to start with two stacks of his Necrotic Surge, not only increasing the damage that he does to the raid, but the quantity of Glacial Wrath and Oblivion’s Echo casts — each of these abilities spawn additional enemies that need to be carefully managed. Failure to do so ensures that the raid will be frozen solid and torn apart by ravenous undead. Each time the raid gets through his Phylactery phase and starts the fight over again, Kel’Thuzad gets another stack of Necrotic Surge — further increasing the number of mechanics that the raid has to overcome.

The Phylactery phase also gets a pair of new mechanics. The void zones will be left behind after Shadow Fissure casts reducing the available amount of space, and Kel’Thuzad will unleash some Foul Winds that attempt to blast everyone off of the platform. One wrong move will damn your soul to spend eternity trapped in Kel’Thuzad’s Phylactery.

All in all, raiders will have to defeat this fearsome Lich four times before they’re able to finally climb to the top of the Sanctum of Domination and confront Sylvanas.

Previous fight: Fatescribe Roh-KaloSanctum of Domination Hub — Next fight: Sylvanas Windrunner

We’ll update the following section as guilds defeat Kel’Thuzad and move further into the Sanctum of Domination.

Will Limit reign supreme for the third raid in a row, or will they be dethroned by Echo? We have more information about who is streaming, how you can watch them, and how far into the raid they are here on Blizzard Watch.
