WRUP: Blizzard Watch is watching for blizzards while we play some video games this weekend

It’s Friday, y’all! After a pretty exciting week of news in the Blizzardverse — cross-faction play in WoW, plus the removal of boosting communities, and news of a mobile Warcraft title on the way this year — it’s time to sit back and relax a little. Especially if, like several of our writers, you’ve been living through a real-life blizzard for several days.

Before we dive into what we’re all up to this weekend, I’d also like to remind folks that Blizzard Watch is currently celebrating our seventh(!!!) anniversary! I’ll spare you the details here, but be sure to check out everything you can get to celebrate.

Anyhow, onto the crux of this post — what we’re playing. Joe Perez leads us off.

  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus

I have an alt raid Friday with my hunter and some friends, hoping to land myself a legendary bow on my hunter, or at the very least a quiver. Still working my way through Pokémon Arceus, and having a blad [EDITOR’S NOTE: Joe meant “blast” here] honestly. Mostly staying indoors and building my Pokédex because we’re in the middle of a little seasonal weather. I was just commenting how I think this is the first time I’m really working to 100% a Pokémon game. Just something about this mix of Monster Hunter / Breath of the Wild and Pokémon is like…. spot-on to pull me in and keep me invested.

I’m also printing and painting some oddities this weekend, because it’s been requested by commissioners. It might also be related to…. Pokémon. >.>

Mitch “Mitch” Mitchell

  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Scream films
Me? There’s a chance I do some Scream-ing with friends, but more than likely, it’ll be a lot of Pokémon Arceus and Mass Effect 3. My GF finally beat ME2 the other night, and it’s kinda surreal that we’re already at the final game (even if it has been several months of playing).
Pretty calm weekend otherwise (*knock on wood*).

  • Hearthstone (Battlegrounds Buddies)
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

While the game mode is still extremely unbalanced, I will continue my efforts to learn the ins and out of Hearthstone Battlegrounds Buddies. I may try to get back into Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but I got the edits back from my editor on my sci-fi novel.

As much as I’d like to listen to the whooshing sound my deadline makes as it flies by, I really need to get going on them. I’d also like to have them knocked out before Legacy of the Sith launches. Oh, and I might try to catch some of the Senior Bowl on Saturday. It’s about all we have for football this weekend.

Phil Xavier

  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus (?)
  • Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore
  • God Eater 3

I haven’t started Pokémon Legends: Arceus yet, but I hope to do it soon. In the meantime, I’m still making my way through Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore. with a little bit of God Eater 3 on the side.

Matthew Rossi

  • Mass Effect
  • Fallout 4
  • Cyberpunk 2077

I haven’t slept in two days so I have no idea what’s going on but I’ve been playing Mass Effect, Fallout 4, Cyberpunk 2077, and I’m considering playing Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Solasta, Shadowrun Returns, and literally anything else that can take my mind off of the past week.

Also I think I miss Tetris.

Anna Bell

  • Cozy Grove
  • How to Survive 2
  • Project Zomboid
  • Breathedge

I’m still playing Cozy Grove every day, though I’m at a point where I’m ready to start building out my campsite properly, but these dumb bears keep giving me chairs and barrels that don’t fit my aesthetic, so I’m annoyed by them just at the point their backstories are getting emotionally heartrending. I’m also playing a lot of survival titles lately for the site — How to Survive 2, Project Zomboid, and Breathedge most recently, with Astroneer and Dying Light on my to-play list — which frequently feature zombies and gore, so it’s a little bit of whiplash. It’s reminiscent of Whimseyshire, in a way.

In real life, we’re getting ready for more Girl Scout Cookie sales, and — by the way y’all, did you know the Olympics started today? I’m not as invested in the Winter Olympics sports as I am the Summer, but at least we have snowboarding to look forward to!

  • Hearthstone (Training Grounds/Mercenaries)
  • SWTOR
  • Bulgasal: Immortal Souls
  • Raised by Wolves

Since the addition of Training Grounds in Hearthstone Mercenaries, I’ve become slightly more interested in it. You can add two Mercenaries to it, and level them up without playing. Not playing Mercenaries is my favorite part of it. But, with this, I almost have all I need to defeat Rend Blackhand, whom I’ve been sitting at for months. I might be able to defeat him, or at least reasonably attempt him, this weekend. It’s also less than two weeks until the new xpac for SWTOR, I’m looking forward that, and started a new character to hold me over until then.

On the TV front, this weekend is the season (series?) finale of Bulgasal: Immortal Souls on Netflix, a Korean drama about a 600-year-old demon-possessed man who is trying to regather his family. It’s kind of slow — not my favorite, but not terrible. Also, on HBO Max, the premier of season two of Raised by Wolves. Season one was great, this season was delayed, hopefully will be as good. I also finished watching Preacher. That show has a definite ending, four seasons, was an excellent show, and I highly recommend it. Yes, I’m slowly turning this into TV Watch.

That’s it for us here at Blizzard Watch! Be sure to let us know what games y’all are up to this weekend — and make sure to stay safe and warm!
