Everything we know about Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope raid in patch 10.2

World of Warcraft patch 10.2 brings us a new zone and a new nine boss raid, Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope. The entrance to the raid appears to be at the Wellspring of Life with the closest flight point at the Wellspring Overlook, across the Field of Flames, in the northern half of the Emerald Dream zone.

To get to the instance, you will need to fly to Ancient Bough east of Shady Sanctuary in Ohn’ahran Plains and enter the portal to the Emerald Dream — unlike Zaralek Cavern, the Emerald Dream zone is an instanced sub-zone. You can fly to the portal, and fly from the portal to Amirdrassil once inside, but you can’t fly directly there on your Dragon, and there is no connecting taxi service.

From the screenshots we’ve seen so far, most of the encounters will occur within the Temple, however it is possible that some will be treated as outside areas. We know that there will be an encounter where you will need to use your Dragonriding mount.

This is what we know so far about the boss encounters in Amirdrassil.

Gnarlroot

This ancient protector, last seen in the Everbloom during Warlords of Draenor, has been ravaged by flame and now seeks only to destroy. The fight has at two phases which appear to cycle, there will be an area denial mechanic and small adds to be cleared as the encounter progresses. During the Intermission phase there will be a focussed burn period where he takes increased damage.

Igira the Cruel

This massive Zaqali is a weapon master whose cruelty is the source of her power, with her weapons being powered by the screams of her enemies. The players will be able to control — to a certain extent — which of her devastating attacks she uses. Until we get to test it we don’t know whether there will be a penalty for repeating a particular attack type. Some of her specials may be easier to counter for certain group compositions.

Igira drops the tier glove token for all classes.

Volcoross

It is said that Volcoross, the lava serpent, is so vast that no creature has lived long enough to see him in his entirety. The gargantuan viper now coils himself around the Emerald Dream to devour it whole.

Volocoross looks similar to the hydra we’ve encountered previously. This viper will spit fire and lava at the party and will attempt to smash the group with its mighty tail.

Council of Dreams

The Council of Dreams are steadfast in their duties as defenders. This triumvirate comprise Urctos the werebear, Aerwynn the dryad, and Pip a faerie dragon. Urctos executes powerful physical attacks, Aerwynn wields natural magic, and Pip performs trickster magic to defeat and subdue their foes.

The obligatory council fight, you will need to bring all three Council members down to 1 hit point within a few seconds of each other or they will rebirth each other.

Larodar, Keeper of Flames

Another Grove Keeper who has been corrupted, having succumbed to the power of the flame. Larodar summons treatants to help him reduce the party to ash. This encounter will call on the healers to renew the summoned add and bring them over to the party’s side.

Larodar also drops the tier leg token for all classes

Nymue, Weaver of the Cycle

A new creature type we haven’t seen before, Nymue was placed in the verdant realm by Eonar when she and Freya shaped the Dream. In Wellspring Temple, she enforces and protects the ordering of the Emerald Dream, weaving its wilderness into complex patterns.

Nymue will wield nature magic to try and repel the invaders into her realm.

Nymue drops the tier chest token for all classes and a very rare caster staff, the Dreambinder, Loom of the Great Cycle.

Smolderon

With Ragnaros finally defeated in Firelands, a new Firelord has risen in his place. Determined to prove himself, Smolderon seeks to expand his domain and extinguish the Emerald Dream. This great elemental wields his massive weapon Emberscar, which the party will need to avoid, and he will attempt to drain the player’s essence.

Smolderon also drops the tier shoulder token for all classes.

Tindral Sageswift, Seer of the Flame

Obsessed with restoring immortality to the Kaldorei, Tindral Sageswift allied with Fyrakk. On the cusp of Fyrakk’s victory, the Seer of the Flame stands against the champions of Azeroth, ready to ensure Amirdrassil is reborn in flame. Similar to Majordomo Staghelm who barred our way to Ragnaros in Firelands, the Druid Tindral Sageswift will use all the forms available to him to try and hold back our heroes.

Like all Druids, his abilities will shift as he cycles through his forms. As a humanoid he will attempt to root the players in place and hit them with falling stars. As a moonkin he will use sunfire and fire beam to try and burn the players. In his treant form he will use a corrupted version of tranquility to do mass fire damage and do pulsing fire damage. Finally during his intermission phases he will take to the air, and the raid will need to chase him on their Dragonriding mounts while avoiding obstacles and gathering powerups. This is a long, multi-stage encounter, with two intermission chase phases.

Tindral Sageswift drops the tier head token for all classes.

Fyrakk the Blazing

The final boss in the instance and most likely the expansion, we finally get to encounter Fyrakk face to face.

Engorged with the power of shadowflame and wielding the legendary axe Fyr’alath, Dream Render, Fyrakk now prepares to feast on the energies of Amirdrassil itself, remaking the world in flame.

A multi-phase encounter, Fyrakk will try to consume Amirdrassil while we desperately attempt to prevent him from succeeding. We will be assisted during the encounter by spirits of the deceased Kaldorei whom we rescued in Shadowlands.

Notable drops from Fyrakk include the Renewed Proto-Drake: Embodiment of Shadowflame, and extremely rare customisation for the Renewed Proto-Drake, allowing you to have the appearance of Fyrakk, similar to the Raszageth skin from the Vault of the Incarnates. It is also expected that he will drop the item that starts the quest for the legendary axe Fyr’alath, Dream Render.
